  • It's just a shame they crack so easily.

    no they dont?!

    (have 2)

  • I have two, had them for years no cracks. Had a wheel from '92 which is still going strong. Not heard of them cracking before

  • no they dont?!

    (have 2)

You're fortunate! They do, or should I say; did, have quite a reputation for the endcap/flange section cracking, where it's bonded to the hub centre.

  • I have one cracked, but that was due to neglected rather than a fault.

  • How much did all this set you back?

That Paul Comp chain retainer is 40 quid by itself, I think the bits in the photo totals about 150-200 quid.

It's not Paul, it's Gusset, £29.99. £207 for everything in the picture plus 32 DT Alpine IIIs to rebuild my wheel.

  • From Rose bikes? They're the only place I found DT Alp IIIs for a decent price

  • Spokes came from Bike24, slightly more than Rosebikes but I was getting the cassette, hub and shifter from them so I didn't have to pay separately for shipping from Rosebikes.

  • My new Crosscheck frame showed up today

  • sumo stahp

  • welcome to the dark side sumo.

    getting the rest?

  • if it comes up second hand. And welcome? I had Enve before you did.

  • dark side being going torwards full finishing kit! I know you were into that before it was cool

  • Arup's lacing these to a pair of Iron Cross - let the tubeless CX experiment begin.

  • ^ sounds awesome! Arup is an ace wheelbuilder, I kept wondering why my wheelset was still true after2 years of commuting on glorious London roads!

Where did you get iron cross from? JRA?

  • good luck with the tubeless experiment, keep the 'cross thread updated. I tried it using a stans conversion a couple of years ago and went back to tubes quite quickly.

  • Yah will do. I have tubeless MTB kit so hopefully wont be coating my workroom with Stan's any time soon.

Amey - the rims were from Koo cycles. Never heard of them but they shipped real quick and the price was sweet. Recommended.

  • ah, and I see they got 24h and 28h too - good find

  • Yeah - these will be 24 front 28 rear.

Will be AWESOME. Going to run Michellin Mud II with a [STRIKE]load[/STRIKE] dash of Stans at 18psi

    Whilst praying they don't burp

  • they won't burp at that pressure, I couldn't get a seal that low so no chance of a burp.

  • You're fortunate! They do, or should I say; did, have quite a reputation for the endcap/flange section cracking, where it's bonded to the hub centre.

Interesting I didn't know that had a reputation for doing that, but I had a Fatso (front) that cracked across the flange. I relaced to spokes and rim to a cheap Exage hub and it's given me not a bit of trouble so far.

  • I dont think 'reputation' was a right term in the quote below as I never heard anything abou this either...

  • they won't burp at that pressure, I couldn't get a seal that low so no chance of a burp.

Homebrew tubeless CX = no chance

  • I have aaaal the hedz.

    Pictures later...

  • the most hilarious of stems
