Rubbish dude - glad it didn't happen when I was trying to wheelie it in the park or i would have felt very bad! It looks like the seatpost should have been deeper so that it went properly past the top tube, but the line on your picture is pretty borderline. It's weird that it wasn't reamed any deeper than that though. I can lend you the BJ frame for a while if you want to be riding fixed - come and pick it up before Thursday if you want it.

Gutted for you dude, such a nice frame, but i think easily repairable, maybe get a custom extra long seat tube at the same time that will spread the stress better through the frame.
Good job you kept the Ti, that'll be nice when built up :)

Same happened to MIKE's yesterday.

@ momentum - Thanks man, but I need to concentrate on touring bikes for a couple of weeks.. ;-)
So it was gonna go at some point, but strange that there were no warning creaks or anything.. hey-ho. here it is back in its prime.. after a repair this may well be up for sale to a less statuesque person. it was only the extended seattube that made it 'my size' I need to supersize my frame..
@Chris Chrash - can I be on the waiting list plz?

ouch! but i think it could be saved, drill out the crack(s) at the bottom to stop them going further. one big hole and chop it off and put the new clamp on backwards so theres a collar round the back.

ask ted, he is Super after all

Ahh man.. I see the problem.. the bloody seat tube was already bent!
You got sold a dud to begin with! ;) -

+1 . . dont touch it yourself!
-
• #41
I recon it is! Prav you want me to come round with my drill and hacksaw tonight? ;)
I think that the stresses on that seat tube must have been enormous to begin with seen as the neck was a good 2" above the support from the other tubes. -

you'll have to make a snugg fit tube to insert in your seat tube, after tidying it all up 1st.
As for securing the insert i'm not sure you can braze with 753, or tig weld it.
Then you'll have to seriously modify a seatpost to make its thinner, with a lathe or something, so that it can fit into the insert.quite a specialist task but doable and you wont notice the difference if done properly.
If you decide not to do that, it might be a little weak and happen again me thinks, being the 753 tubing that you have.
also i can't see how you would secure the seatpost.Damn shame though, cos its a nice frame.
I can't see any other way to do it tbh. -

with it chopped down and clamped it will be as strong as normal as it will have better support of the rear triangle and top tube, with that neck being so high it would have been flexing like mad.
The main problem seems to be the cracks, they would have to be drilled but if you were to clamp it the opposite way so the bolt is at the front it would be fine.If you were to use a shim you would have to make one to reach all the way down to the bend of the seat tube and then lathe the entire seat tube so that contact was made all the way down the tube or you would be back at square one if there was room for any pivot movement.
and possibly a snapped seatpost in the future if it was lathed -

Bleak dude. Can't believe you killed the gay.

We aim to please.

or you could have the cracks sorted and a seat tube brazed in place for ever!
-
• #48
it would be hard to replace that seat post, as the bend is hard to recreate... sorry to have to say that
-
• #49
at least you have a new polo bike ;)
lol Chris Im sure a frame builder worth their salt could replace that seat tube no prob it would jut cost an arm and a leg ..and with out an arm and a leg why have a bike? ;)
