Useful on the commuter yeah, aesthetically not so useful.
get over it

Recently went from maxis detonator to durano plus because I blew threw the sidewall of the detonator skidding on a dodgy surface.
The durano plus has gone to blue in 2 days, if memory serves there's a lot left underneath that.

Have you considered slowing down rather than skid stopping? Your bank account will thank you.
-
• #730
I usually do, but I've been having a little fun recently. Just surprised how quickly the blue started showing.
-
• #731
I'd go for Marathon Plus if I was intentionally skidding everywhere. Even more 'meat' on 'em than Durano. I've still got one on the back of the Condor though don't skid these days.
-
• #732
I'll stick with the durano plus I reckon, don't have knees to a skid everywhere 24/7 anyway.

htfu, :)

I just finished skidding through a Deda Grinta. It was shit and lasted about 3 weeks. Had to buy an emergency gatorskin from cycle surgery and I fucking hate gatorskins...
-
• #735
Continental gatorskin HARDSHELL all the way.
Key is odd:odd chainring and cog combo plus ambidextrous skidding.
Like 47:17
34 skid patches.

Plus DAWS
Do a whip skid either side instead of a long continuos skid.
-
• #737
Sorry if this is a naff question, but is there a gumwall tyre that's as good for skid resistance as something tough le a vittoria randonneur?
-
• #738
BLACK MAMBAS.nothing else will keep longer for shiderzz.
-
• #739
black mambas are the worst tyre ever, avoid. Panaracer paselas are ok for skidding but do wear away by shreding massive chunks
-
• #740
The best tyre AND best value for money has to be the Continental Sport Ultra.
A lot cheaper than the gatorskin and very hard wearing. I've been using them for years.
-
• #741
Can I ask you to explaine your statment to avoid black mambas, tell me your expierences on those tires: long rides, short rides, wet and dry... Skidzz.. Mounting, dismounting, puncture.. Mister? :) i bet you never had them..
-
• #742
Its continental ultra sport or ultra sport plus (new model not so new anymore).. Reviews sais its hardcore skid tire.. Unfortunatelly I guess i both fake one coz it lasted me no more than a month.. So nothing special.
-
• #743
they ride like shit, they're impossible to get on, they don't actually slow you down when skidding.
Fuck you
-
• #744
Continental Ultra Sport. I think they're great but then I'm running 36 skid patches.
Maybe you need to change your ratio? -
• #745
I put an ultra sport on the back once purely because I needed a new tire right away and it was the only one I had lying around, and I was pretty pleasantly surprised actually.
I didn't like (I mean I really hated) the made for fixie skidders supersport plus or whichever it is because it was a nightmare to get on/off and rode like shit, and then lasted for long enough to make me resent it even more, but the ultrasport was if only average at least not noticeably shit to ride, lasted for as long as some heavy duty tires that ride worse, and most importantly was cheap as shit.

• #746
Something spinny with lots of skid patches like 47x19. Why do you ask?
-
• #747
I concur. I think its the best value for money tyre out there. I changed one day to some vittoria shite after the guy at unnamed bike shop said it didn't matter about the compound of the tyre and i said it did, anyway that lasted about a week, so straight back to the ultra sport I went.

So no-one's got a gumwall tyre that skids predictably, apart from mantas' suggestion of the BLB Black Mamba. My experience of Paselas is that they're a bit too grippy, and jerky to skid.
I've been using Randonneurs on my one-braked fixed winter bike for ages and I really can't fault them on wear and skid control, just that they're a bit sluggish compared to a fancy roadie tyre.
This enquiry is for a fixieskidder I've been meaning to build.
I guess I'll forget the gumwall thing, and just go for rando, detonators or durano plus on the back, and something a bit less hardcore on the front.

Any qualified opinions on the ThickSlick deluxe? Hubjub have them at a decent price at the moment.

Running an Espoir Elite on the back atm, quite surprised! Lightweight, good traction and grip whilst skidding. Had it on for 2 months now and its still going strong, not bad for £8!
I had Cross Rando 37mm with refletctive one and it was quite removable if you were patient and didn't rush it, don't know how it is on the new version.
