Giant Bowery at Pearsons

  • Just my late two pence.

I think the flamers were in the right, to cast their napalm at Pearson for such a direct advert.

I also think that Pearson could have called attention to their website without directly naming a specific product. That would have been better than a direct pitch. We would then choose to look, or just ignore.

The Bowery I find, is great for its frame more than anything else. It comes in the smallest OTP size I have heard of, and got cheapskate lard-arses like me to attempt (but FAIL) the whole spin-to-win mularkey.

So, dear Pearson, you can see that direct marketing like this is a no-no. Maybe you could try giving-to-get? How about offering a tester spot to a nominated person on this forum? He/she could test a bike, give their verdict, and if it will help you sell bikes, you post it on your site. That way, you connect to us, and we connect to you. Just an idea. Oh, and a small percentage discount for us forumengers.

  • quick warning to prospective purchasers: CHANGE THE BB

Yeah, but what do you want instead, a "new user" turning up with a post something like:

Subject: Giant Bowery £250 - Is this a good price?
Hi, I'm new to fixed and I found this bike for sale at...

I'd rather people were upfront and open given the easiest thing to hide on the internet is identity - give them credit for that at least. And keen prices benefits us all, it's not an us vs them situation, so open channels of communication are surely a good thing?

It's really down to the forum moderators to set the rules that people then have to stick to. If the rules are ambiguous or non-existent, don't flame the people exploring the limits.

  • GA2G has given his judgment, don't question it.

  • don't you police me, mate

  • just give him a false name

You should have come back with the classic 'I know you are but what am I'.

    Never fails.

  • VB has made it perfectly clear, no commercial posts. Remember the guy posting about the discount on bridgestones? His post was deleted, even though he was a perfectly decent guy, who rides fixed, and apologised for getting it wrong.

  • Where is it 'perfectly clear'?

I see no FAQ or posting guideline thread.

  • whenever I see that bike mentioned I think of a 50 foot tall Leigh Bowery,
