  • This guy http://instagram.com/notimeswan

    Just did this to me:

which I am pretty stoked on.

  • jv it's going to be this piece.

But only jesus and the clouds, not all the people down the bottom and obviously simplified a bit so it ages well and all that jazz.

I wonder if Jesus would spend all of his money on tattoos, or give it to the poor.

  • Also I should mention that that dude, Pete Corrie, is super nice. It was kind of just a rad hang with some cool people where I had a tattoo at the end. He tattoos out of his friend's clothing shop in a funny old only-in-berlin building. Downstairs is a graffiti school (?!) in the next building is a biker club. If you like his style and are in Berlin I totally recommend him.

  • ^^^ good question Kevin.
something i struggle with a lot..
but i think treating yourself sometimes isnt a bad thing. but no he wouldnt've.
    he didnt have much money.

    Why do you ask?

  • ^^^ lolz. i failed

I ask because IIRC you said before you admire Jesus (or something like that) and that he is a huge influence on your life.

I think there's a contradiction - a large one - with spending thousands of pounds on self-adornment, including that of an image of a man, who himself would probably have called such an action narcissistic and selfish. Wouldnt you agree?

  • Expecting a Christian to go all of the way to the extreme and wander the earth like some itinerant early Benedictine is pretty silly. It's like expecting all vegetarians to not shop at any store that sells any meat products. Or sXe folks not to ever eat an altoid.

I mean, if people feel like living that all the way, 100%, no compromise lifestyle, I guess they can but they probably don't last long, and if they do they will probably be less happy. A pleasant life is about round corners not sharp edges IMO.

That said, the Jesus pictured looks like he spends all of his shekels on gym memberships, protein supplements, and diuretics. #swole

But at least he's a proper Aryan Christ.

  • Want to get more tattoos but got told off by my tattooist last time for giggling too much, I am the most ticklish person in the world, I swear.

Where do I say I expect someone to do that?

But: imho tattoos are definitely a 'luxury' self-adornment item in the grand scheme of things, and spending thouands of pounds on them while espousing / endorsing / following the teachings of Jesus seems hypocritical to me.

  • Wow. Look at that. It took all of three posts for religion to do the only thing its good for.... start an argument.
    Take it elsewhere please >>>>

  • I'm discussing tattoos and religion, in the tattoo thread, so its on topic.

It's a forum, guess what - sometimes things go slightly off the exact thread of the topic.

  • This conversation is boring in any thread but I will say what I think is a good, general rule of thumb:

Telling anybody what they should or shouldn't do based on your own understanding of their moral code is lame and narcissistic.

It is way worse than telling them what to do based on your own moral code.

  • My Jesus forgives your Jesus.

Can someone please post the latest from Guy Le Tattooer to get us back on topic?

  • based on your own understanding of their moral code

That moral code (christianity) is something I had the misfortune to grow up with, so I feel that I can question it if I like.

If you dont like the discussion about religion and tattoos, dont read the thread, maybe wait a few days until its fizzled out, put me on ignore so you dont have to see my posts, or take it up with the admins if you feel its abusive or way OT. You have lots of options.

Here's something else if you want some froth:

I admire my wife and she has had huge influence on my life, but that doesn't make me do everything the way she'd like. And definatey not the way she would have done it.

  • No it's a very good point. And I really do struggle with it.
I try to keep away from consumerist culture as much as possible. I try to spend money only on things I actually need and then use the rest of my money to serve the needy people in my community as best I can.
I try to put them before me as often as I can but I do continue to fail.

Tattoos are the way I treat myself. And I do believe that Jesus does want us to enjoy our lives as long as it glorifies him. He gave us bodies as a gift and wants us to enjoy them within reason.

I'm not 100% whether I should be paying for tattoos and if God tells me that I should stop then I will but for the meantime I feel confident that overall I am drawing close to God. Also having Jesus on me it'll remind me what is important - as all my tattoos do.

Dublin Kevin if your in London I'd love to actually talk to you about it face to face. It's really challenging and something I do try to consider. And then it would keep fellow forumengers happy as we wouldn't de-rail the thread. Pub and chat?

    Sure baby

  • That moral code (christianity) is something I had the misfortune to grow up with, so I feel that I can question it if I like.

Christianity is everything from bitter balls of hate like Fred Phelps (Of godhatesfags.com fame) to giving, loving, gentle, Mother Teresa types. Because you were raised with the customs and understanding of one flavor doesn't mean you know how someone else should feel about their own spirituality in all of Christianity.

My family was torn apart by born again pentecostal Christianity and I, personally, have no faith at all in anything because why faith? But so what?

  • Oh dear, we need tynan to explain about Theresa .
