I had a quick chat with him at the London convention. Seems pretty cool

The only thing (spat from money and pain) that's putting me off is the fact that he won't do any sketches beforehand.

What did you guys get done?

We had tribal work done - I had a Iban crab design on my shoulder and diving dragon/dog across my chest. Both were existing designs that he tweaked a little to cover up some older pieces. L&W had a tribal design that Matt created on the spot based on some other Borneo design elements that she likes. Pics further up-thread.

Matt will not do anything until both you and he are happy. He kept going back and tweaking the design for my chest piece because he wasn't happy with the way it was covering things up, even though I was. I liked that. It was easy though as he loves doing tribal stuff, so he was really into the designs we wanted to execute. That was part of the reason we chose to work with him. L&W was born and raised in Borneo so we didn't want to pick just anyone.

hip and sides, in terms of the black work, felt like he was a bit heavy handed, but I have nothing to compare to in terms of that area. Felt especially on the hip like he was scraping around on the bone, not pleasant. Had to hit the chemist for pain killers straight after, and felt it everytime I moved for about a week/ ten days after.

Took three sessions in all, first to design and do the outline in dotwork, about 4/5 hours, second filling in the black work, about six hours, then finishing the blackwork and final dotwork about two and a half hours.

I'll give it a couple of years before I get something as big or bigger, need time to think about the design and also let the pain memory fade.

Would recommend matt, he's easy to work with, really diligent and wants to do great work.
Like I said in my first post, this was new territory for me, and though the design wasn't what I had visualised in my head originally, it's come out different and I love it, and wouldn't want it any other way..

Pretty much sums up my experience with Matt too.

Really nice piece, Corny. Can remember quite clearly what heavy black over bone feels like; must have been some session.

I've emailed about the 8th too. Not heard a reply yet.

I'm booked with Aivaras for the 4th at 4pm. Showed him some of my favourite tattoos by him and he's going to design something similar but without a strict theme or anything. I can't wait.

I'm so fucking jealous. Won't be getting any work done until next year now, saving up for a holiday with my girlfriend.
