Have you got a photo of something similar to what you're after you can share?
-
• #11178
I wanted to keep it private.
I can pm it if you think you can help?
-
• #11179
Sure, I can try. Go for it

I'm also happy to give pointers but would need an idea of what you would like. There are some amazing tattooists in London with great line work.

Most of the Parliament lot spring to mind, especially Joseph Harper. But I don't know what the deal is with supplying artwork as I've only ever got stuff that the artist has drawn.

@skinny I'd check out The Circle, maybe Kola Hari: https://www.instagram.com/kolahari/
https://www.instagram.com/thecirclelondon/
Or maybe Black sea, they tattoo at The Circle sometimes too: https://www.instagram.com/black_.sea/
Tomas Tomas for geometric stuff: https://www.instagram.com/tomastomas108/
Liam Sparkes' shop Old Habits have some artists with great line work too: https://www.instagram.com/oldhabitstattoo/
The Family Business is also worth considering: https://www.instagram.com/thefamilybusinesstattoo/
If you've got good ideas though just take them along and they'll point you towards the artist who best fits the style you are going for.
Sang Bleu have some excellent tattooists too but they are more expensive even though there are equally good artists elsewhere.

Thanka sang blue was what jake recommended. When I'm home I'll send the design to you and you can see and recommend. From looking at sang blue's artists they'd smash it. I'll go to a few places and see.
I don't mind paying lots because it'll be with me until I burn. -

Yeah no problem, send it over!
A thing to consider is do you have a rapport with the artist, if they seem disinterested or a bit off I wouldn't book in even if I know their work is incredible.

Who in London does a good black and grey sailor jerry-esque pinup? Nothing tasteless or too detailed but have an idea

Advice sought. My lad has decided nursing isn't for him and wants to embark on a career in tattooing - this hasn't come as a surprise.
So a quick google comes up with training courses which say they all provide the qualifications to set up.
We're not niave enough to think all courses are the same. Anyone got any advice on how to choose a good course or any other ideas appreciated. -

Isn't an apprenticeship the more usual route?
I've not actually heard of it with tattooing but there are some studios offering piercing courses which purport to be a good way to start a career but in reality, participants never touch a needle let alone perform a piercing and the studio my wife works in hasnt, and I don't think would, ever hire someone based on them having done one of these 'courses'.

He needs to get a portfolio together of art (not tattoos) and take it in person to studios. Maybe he might get lucky but it's harder than ever (I'm led to believe) to get an apprenticeship in a half decent shop nowadays. There is no course for tattoooing that anyone will take seriously. It's a money making scheme. It takes hard graft to become and complete an apprenticeship.

Just need to knock on doors. When I used to hang out at KoH, they get calls all the time about this and I guess most decent shops get calls / visit like this all the time.
No one had a tattoo at a great shop!? 😂
