  • all a bit of a giggle i know.

but ffs have the police not got anything better to do ?

a bit of scandal really when you think about it.

depends on context really dont you think?

if, for instance it was some idiot on a bike RLJing on a busy junction (kingsland rd/old street), thereby forcing a bus to emergency brake*, causing bus passengers to go flying injuring at least two ( that i could see) whilst also endangering the cyclists life then i would say thats a good use of police time.....?
(idiot didnt have any lights either)

*as happened to me sat night on the bus home

    (cue flaming/accusations of trolling....yawn)

  • =people on the bus should wear helmets

  • ....and inflatable "air bag" suits...

  • City of London Police have Specialized bikes now. I had a look over a couple who stopped at LMNH last year some time. They're much better bikes but they still carry too much stuff.

I unknowingly led a bike cop on a chase from Moorgate to Aldgate East, I was looking all around except for behind me, he finally caught up with me when the road narrowed, a cement mixer was in front, and then it decided to stop to go into a site. I had to wait patiently as there was no way around it and I felt a tap on the shoulder. Bike cop looked well out of breath. If it wasn't for the cement mixer I would have been gone. Luckily he only gave me one fine instead of three.

He then rode off on the pavement...

  • ...to chuck up

  • Peoples needs to HTFU stop moaning about getting caught breaking the law. I hate the way mums look scared to cross with their kids on green.

  • I hate the way mums look scared to cross with their kids on green.

Some of them seemed more terrified of cyclists than drivers.

  • Shut up it hasn't done me any har;',.';l|HIP\HIjhio[0p\34tP\I\PWEffwJIP{|ERWGO[J'

  • I hate how peds expect cyclists to RLJ.

    Ruins my element of surprise.

No but really, it means I have to wait longer for them to decide that I'm slowing down because I'm going to stop, not because I just feel like it.

  • Ed, that's what I'm on about

  • I got chased from the bottom of Regents Park most of the way up Marrilibone road. There were loads of pigs on bikes just pulling people over and checking over there bikes. They tried to pull me over. I didnt stop. I then turned right (no right turn) up Marrilibone road. The hurd the showt but didnt stop. I stopped at the next red light. I could here my the copper behind me on the bike. When the lights went green I hammered up the road. Stopped at the next red, all I could hear behind my was panting. When that light changed I just left him and he gave up. It was quite funny. A bit silly but funny.

  • but ffs have the police not got anything better to do ?

Depends on the circumstances... That does sound a bit like something that an RLJ/mobile using/speeding motorist would say though.

Not worth trying to get away really, even if the bike cop looks out of condition. Making off is treated much more seriously than whatever you could be stopped for - as it suggests that you might be a bad un eg bicycle thief

On the subject twitter people @citycyclecop (is that how you do it?) is planning a Q&A on City cycle police sometime soon

+1 and when they thank me for stopping at a zebra crossing. I'm supposed to!

  • Benny I didn't know you were on the forum! Actually I thought you were dead to be honest.

    Love your work though man.

  • +1 and when they thank me for stopping at a zebra crossing. I'm supposed to!

but they can be forgiven for forgetting this. taxis don't stop.

  • ^ wow. 25.1 - I think that means pedestrians in the cross walk have right of way over vehicles when on the crossing. *or that is what i think it should say, but even with english as my fisrt language I have difficulty with that!

I wonder if that's why telling some driver to read the highway code is ineffective when i tell them I have the same rights to be on the road as them?

  • someone should re-write the highway code in plain english.. I bet it would help.

  • Only if there is someone on the crossing at the time.

Still - It's nice to wait even if they're not on the crossing, and only waiting for you to stop before they cross.

True, and it's always nice to be thanked, even if it's unnecessary.

    Benny - love your work

  • ah..
even a dumb arse like me understands that! :)

Strictly speaking vehicle has right of way at zebra crossing until ped puts his/her foot on the road.

But loads of peds sensibly stay on the pavement and wait for traffic to stop...if traffic obeying the strict letter didn't stop they'd never get across. Highway Code guidance (195) says be ready to slow down and stop - that's not mandatory

So true! I saw this taxi driver outside St Pauls drive through the zebra crossing with people actually on it. He then stopped on the other side as traffic was at a standstill, and when the people who had to jump out of his way shouted at him he just turned and swore at them. I remember looking at him and thinking you miserable old bastard...

  • They were at the junction of The Cut and Waterloo Rd this morning; cue loads of stupid people still jumping and getting pulled over.
