Just what exactly do they do? At the junction outside Southwark tube, morning and afternoon rush hours, witnessed them being completely and utterly useless. In the morning, a bunch of us were approaching the red light, all very civilised to roll into the ASL one after another, the copper turned to us, wouldn't stop staring at us, as if any of us had any intention to jump... Then 2 cyclists jumped behind his back...
In the evening, coming back, same spot, pretty much the same thing, everyone was rolling into the ASL, a copper was finger pointing and talking in a shouty way to either a fellow cyclist or the motorbike guy next to him, not sure. I mean as far as I could see, neither of them did anything wrong, the light was changing, so if anything, it should thumps up for the motorbike guy for stopping, he could have gone through the amber light easily.Saw many more of them on my way, most are either chatting with each other or giving directions to tourists...

genuinely didn't know what the box was about, so not all bad.
I reckon this is common. ASLs weren't around when I did my test, when they started appearing I had to look up the rules. They're clearly everywhere now and it's the responsibility of drivers to learn new rules as they're introduced, but I bet plenty of people, especially rural and/or occasional drivers aren't sure what they mean.
I had a cheery discussion with a driver who used the solid-white-lined bike lane to undertake a right turning car the other day. He genuinely thought it was a legal move and was accepting and understanding when it was explained that it isn't.

you gotta be pretty dumb to not be able to work out they are there for cyclists, when they have a big bike sign painted on the floor.

Elephant and castle all week, been there visibly inforce especially on the junction towards oval.
Also saw them have a word (just a word) after watching a motorist enter a ASL.Also saw someone being ticketed at London bridge this morning.

Saw some at Dalston Junction yesterday about 4ish when heading south.

Blackfriars Road / Union Street this week too.
Just 'talking to's for drivers in the ASL box here as well. Do they take the plates of those they 'talk to' so that they could fine them for a 2nd offence? At least they've stopped telling me to wear a helmet though.

Cops from Whitechapel Road down to Cannon Street Road and at Tower Bridge north end.

There's been plenty of Cops and PCSOs at most major junctions all the way along the CS7 this week. Seen a few cyclists being given a "talking to". Not sure what for.

That reminds me, had a police car tail me all the way up Tottenham Court Road to Camden onTuesday, could have over taken me at any point. They finally overtook me going up the hill to Camden High Street and pulled over a young lady who cycled through the red light where Eversholt and Hampstead join together. Turds.

shoreditch highst junction this morning too

Is there a summer drive to fine cyclists at the moment?
The whole of North London has been infested with OB/PCSO fuckers all week. From Angel/St John Street junction all the way up Holloway Road to the top of Highgate. Almost every junction has one keeping an eye on things with cars stationed further down the road. Be very careful out there.
London is not a cycling friendly city. Whatever those in charge try to brainwash us into believing. London hates cyclists and it is all lip service -

There's a couple of bike popo at the crossing over Newington Butts and some at the turning into The Mall from Traffy Sq. They are no doubt looking for red light jumpers at that turn off as you get an immediate red when you go into it from Whitehall.

Indeed the cyclist friendly city. Personally I don't tend to jump reds that often, but the site of them just winds me up so I thought I'd jump one right in front of them this morning for a laugh just to piss them off. Yes I'm a prick

you'll also be a prick with 30 less notes in your pocket. hardly seems worth it.

They were too busy fining a poor bloke on a Boris Bike to notice :(

If it's any consolation, the same sites are also the sites of green and amber lights. :)

Two days a month? Well that's four days this week. Again, if you tell the people they will believe it, regardless of what their senses tell them.
The Angel Islington/Pentonville junction is very dangerous. West bound especially as the lanes are so narrow, there is no ASL, there are filter lights.
Why the fuck do they not spend the money on making these junctions safer. How difficult can it be?
