  • What is it with cars not having functioning lights. I'm really getting pissed off. I count nearly 10 on every commute, one of them who I confronted yesterday had only one front light working so thought he'd even it out by putting his flood lights on. I agree with hippy, everyone is a cunt. So much frustration.

  • Stood outside holborn station at the side exit today at around 5.20 for a good 15 mins and honestly walked away angry at what I observed.

cop on either side of the road, purposely only talking to cyclists who crosses the green box line, even by half a wheel. Basically waiting for red light jumpers.

However, not talking to any motorists who repeatedly stopping in the box. Just before I left, I even observed a private taxi taking up the entire box, pushing cyclists into the side and therefore creating a possible dangerous situation for those turning left like he was.

    Pretty shocking

  • I would happily let every driver across this fine land stop in every ASL everywhere if the masses of dangerous, idiotic, pedestrian sheep were rounded up and left to eat each other in a large cage somewhere in Liverpool.

  • Should the cops also be talking to red light jumping peds? I am serious, this is not technically illegal (or is it?) but no less annoying and dangerous for other road users. Jumping red light should be fined regardless of how you do it - peds, cars, bikes.

  • There's no such offence for pedestrians in Britain. They can legally cross where and when they like* and the onus is on the people who make up the traffic flow to keep them safe.

*so long as it's not a motorway, which is actually illegal

  • They might be able to cross where they like but is there no offence for doing something stupid and causing an accident?

Like, if I ran in front of a bunch of cars all day playing chicken - am I really free to do that? Because it seems the peds in London are free to do that so maybe I should implement my own traffic calming measure - by sitting in the street.

Did you say something to them? You should have done.

  • ^yep, approach them, be polite and point out what's going wrong. You never know but it the 2 brain-cells in their wooden heads may actually start working and they might change.

If you were doing it persistently, all day long, you could probably get done for obstruction of a highway as you'd be easy to get catched. All the millions of peds in London doing the same thing aren't really doing it in such a way that makes them easy to get catched, though, and there's not really any way of proving each individual is doing it persistently, all day long.

But in normal traffic conditions, you should be prepared to slow down or stop at any time due to unexpected situations. In the highway code, innit.

  • They are still stupid cunts for walking out into traffic though, I agree.

  • plodulous outside euston station on monday night collared me for shouting a naughty word at a WVM that left hooked me sans indicating - at one point he threatened me with arrest because i wouldn't listen to his 'advice' and had caused a 'breach of the peace'.

he also went on to tell me that i shouldn't antagonise people in vehicles because they might 'run me over', as happened to a 'cyclist he knew just last week'. which was clearly a lie.

/my brain is still full of fuck

  • I think I got the same speech from the same guy a while back. Speeding in a bus lane in bus only hours to try and run me over doesn't warrant "causing a scene" and "breaching the peace".

  • Are there any laws for horses/horse riders?
Imagine if the Boris bikes were replaced with rows of horses.
That would be amazing. Bowling through central london jumping peds and shitting on car bonnets that get too close.

  • I saw yet another cop gave just a leaflet to a motorbiker who clearly entered the ASL after the red came on outside King's Cross station, the cop then waved him goodbye wth a smile. I wonder what would happen to me if I was to jump the red light at that precise moment?

    ACAB etc...

Breach of the peace? Not by any definition that someone with a clue would use.

I hope you stole his helmet and shit in it.

  • I hope you stole his helmet and shit in it.

Only if greenhell was preggers and not within 1 mile of a loo

    (I think that's the law)

  • Might be worth setting the precedent though

Ironically, threatening an unlawful arrest is an assault, and technically also a breach of the peace.

  • I like the "no keeping more than one lunatic without a licence" one.

VB would be wise to check his status.

People running onto the road != normal traffic conditions.. or does it?

Normal traffic conditions is red man = don't walk so what happens when they do walk? Nothing? If so, what's the point of even having ped crossings and timed crossing signals? Traffic should be slowed to 10mph everywhere and pedestrians can step out without fear of being mowed down. But this isn't the case.

exactly, also if you run them over with a motor vehicle nothing happens to you so their
right of way in every situation is pretty weak.

In London? I'd say yes, it is. It's completely normal. And so would you, given how upset you get about it every day :-)

Normal traffic conditions is for you, not peds. You can "should" about how to improve the roads for everybody all day long if you want, but nevertheless if a ped ends up in the road in front of you, there is no provision in law to prevent them from being there, even if there's a red man showing.
