Loads of my mates have them they love it. I am getting my front wheel laced snowflake to. But superted rides a snowflake pattern and he canes it on his bike.

Anyone seen a guide how to lace the wheel like this? Tried the http://www.justfuckinggoogleit.com page, but they didn't have it.

Cheers EM, its either this or 3 leading/trailing. Haven't seen many bikes with snowflakes about, guess I haven't been looking properly.
And thanks johan, dumb questions are what I do best. :P

ted's mrs bikeNice! I met Ted at a party once, although he looked a little scared of me. It may have been the time I dressed as a vacuum cleaner.

Can I still be the king of dumb questions please? I didn't understand what you just said though.

Seeing that it's SuperTed, don't you think he's pretty much abusing his bike enough to canes a snowflake spokes?

they make noise tho when u ride . . .

i've built a few with snowflake or twists. i rode one for a while on my rear wheel, it tended to creak a little first time you rode it and had to crank up the tension so they are a harsher ride.
this is a 3 lead 3 trail, done a twist in the middle for a polo bike b4

quote]What sort of spoke length do you need for this type of lacing?
-
• #17
i think its add 3mm per twist, but may need to check, and make sure you do an even number of twists so it goes to the hole it would normally go to without any twists
-
• #18
cheers, I haven't been able to find anything on it anywhere
-
• #19
add a 2-3mm for a single twist, the one above it double twisted, so 5mm ish
-
• #20
so about 2.5mm per twist?
-
• #21
dude, i just guess spoke lengths. personally i'd just use the same ones that came with the wheel.

Building up some snowflakes eh?
I'm loving that 3l 3t with a twist. Do you have a close up of the hub/twist area dogsballs? Do you need a 36h for that?
-
• #23
no i sold the bike b4 pics. yes 3lead 3 trail need 36h

just laced up a 3L3T and very nice it looks, too. I really wanted to do the twist, but it looked a bit irreversible if / when I fucked it up.

Is that a 60 spoke wheel?
I really want some sort of silly laced wheel to give my bike a bit more character!
I like snowflake designs, but have no idea if they are strong enough, how hard they are to build and if I need special spokes?
As you can tell - I've never built a wheel before, although me mate does them all the time, but only standard lacings.
Can anyone else lend some advice before I attempt?
Cheers!
