I quite enjoyed that, although I don't mind the rain. Still picking bits of grit out of my eyes, ears etc etc this morning though...

That ride back into town and out the other side was miserable in that weather. So much terrible driving.
I came down on my way to the track on a drain cover which wasn't the best start. My team mate was shooting for the overall series win so I tried to help out chasing a few breaks and taking the wind. Eventually I blew and got dropped about half way through.

Spring classic, put my nose into the wind/snow/sleet/rain far too much early on and couldn't cling on when the Elites caught the junior group and it all went ballistic. Stayed upright though which is a positive.
Legs felt good, think i'll be ok against the other 2/3/4s, trying to mix it with the E/1/2s in other races will be a bit more of an ask.
Was so cold that someone collapsed in the HQ afterwards, wish them a fast recovery.

Hounslow Road Race
It's this Sunday, has a good field and I thought one or two of you may like to go out to watch (naturally, I hope some of you are riding)
HQ is The Chobham Club, Windsor Road, Chobham, Surrey. Start 10.30 am. The distance is 87 miles, so the finish should be about 2 pm
Here is a map of the course.

Link to report
Here is a link to a report on our race.
As you can see I didn't write it. I found it impossible to combine the roles of organiser and reporter.

Rode the Bristol South CC 3/4 road race yesterday, with a couple of forumengers - @George_Sportif @Borek and I think @benjam
Probably the hardest ride I have done in a long time. I had a horrible cough/manflu earlier in the week so wasn't expecting much - although was feeling like I was over it, so decided to ride... Absolutely Insane winds, I spent a good third of the race just trying to keep the bike upright (50mm rims were right on the edge of rideable). I reckon my arms are more tired than my legs from the effort. Surprised no-one was blown off their bike ala Geriant in Ghent Wevelgem
The course is supposed to be 8 laps of a rolling triangle of a route (was shortened to 6 laps after worsening conditions). The first third was mostly a climb up through Stowey - apart from a couple of gates this was pretty sheltered and not too bad, the climb isn't especially steep, but enough to take its toll after several laps. After the climb the road would turn and you would have a massive tailwind along the top.... Until you got to the end of the road and had a sharp left onto the main road, at which point the cross wind hits you. It's mostly ok as it climbs again and some mini echelons formed.
Then you get to the top and realise you have a 50mph decent with a 50mph crosswind.... this was probably one of the scariest things I have experienced in a while - knowing that there were two farm gates on the descent and when you passed them you would be pushed 3ft towards the centre of the road... you are soon at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill and then make a left for the final leg...
This is when the headwind hits you if your not in the middle of the bunch... There were sections (downhill!) along here where you had to be out of the saddle, sprinting, just to keep your speed in double figures.
I managed to keep up with the (very diminished) bunch until around the 4/5th lap, at which point a small gap grew, and faced with that headwind there was no way back...
Thought about abandoning, but got together with a couple of other guys and managed to hang together and get to the finish a couple of minutes behind the main group.
70 or so starters and around 20 finishers apparently. Amazingly no crashes, I think everyone realised how sketchy it was out there and behaved themselves...

Respect, I was planning to ride down and watched but couldn't face the weather.

What mid-week crits are there in London? Thinking of dabbling...

Mallory's only an hour (or so)away... ;)

Ha, I barely rode Mallory when it was in rideable distance, not gonna be travelling up!

Any specific ways of searching? -

CP sold out in a few hours, not sure about Hillingdon?
You might want to re-phrase that. :)
