  • A woman came into my shop on Monday asking who makes Polobikes now, on further discussion she's the missus of somebody from the Chelsea Pedlars and she means grass polo bikes. Regardless I handed over 14 and Oaks contact details. Didn't know about these til last night!

  • Yup, they're about to buy some new grass polo bikes for the club but they haven't got much cash... According to Sarah from the Pedlars they've been talking to Archie Wilkinson...

  • A number of the grass polo people at cant, were riding archie's with swept back bars... I don't know if they are good for grass polo, but I didn't think much of them for hardcourt.

  • Great to see those old bikes getting a run out at last but why are they using a small ball on grass?

  • ^ Cos it works? I didn't realise there was a regulation ball to use? What do you suggest we use?

  • dont know what you were using but usually a size 1 football is used for grass polo casper.

  • Ok, aren't they a bit bouncy? We are using a street hockey ball, you can really get some distance when you hit the sweet spot.

I expect a size 1 football is cheap, I'll get one a see how it goes.

  • Yeah, they bounce, but a bit like a tennis ball in the sense that they don't really travel for ever (unlike a street hockey ball). Makes it hard to BB, but it's a lot of fun.

And theres's another 35 right there.

  • FWIW, the Irish Grass Polo website says that an arena polo ball should be used.

You could always ask the former England Bicycle Polo team captain what they used:

  • pretty sure arena ball is size 1. poss slightly smaller. is size 0 a size?

  • I bought a size 1 football, it will be fine and possibly safer for beginner grass ct skills exercises, but I think I'd want something harder to play seriously. That arena polo site has both inflatable and wooden balls, I think I'll buy a couple of wooden ones to see how they play. We spoke to Gary initially when we 'rescued' the bikes, clearly there would be not better person to ask!

    Thanks Bill.
