  • cant recommend a decent steak house but i can recommend you a fucking kickass cut of beef that until about a month ago was totally off my radar.

Its called 'Onglet' or 'Hanger' .. its cheap as chips but has to be one of the nicest cuts i've ever eaten. if its on the menu. get it !

  • Oh yeah and I think that Goucho chain is overly pricey and a bit style over substance - definitely not as good as it used to be when there were only a couple of restaurants.

'La Pampa' in Clapham Jnc is good (I've not been for a few years) - but it isn't cheap. If you're looking central The Bountiful Cow in Holborn is hard to beat, altho I'd say their burgers are slightly better than their steaks (not expensive either). Apparently it's Faye Mashler's fave steak place, if you're swayed by that type of thing.

Yeah, I went to La Pampa -they serve the steaks with eggs. to be honest, it wasn't that wonderful, and was very expensive for what you got.

    • 1 more, though be warned they only take cash or cheque. Whenever my veggie gf is away I grab a paper and get a table for one, with a large glass of malbec. Heaven!

do you go to the one in olympia? i haven't been there, was looking for a steak venue for sat night

  • Yep. It's round the back nearer Brook Green really. Don't take cards but other than that it's great.

Very popular in France, but you don't see it offered much here. Shame.

I had hump-cut for the first time in a churrascaria in Brazil recently. Actually, fuck it, if you want the best steak in the world you need to get a plane to Sao Paulo and eat at Fogo de Chao. The waiters circulate with skewers of the most perfectly cooked steaks of every conceivable cut. You have a little disc by your plate - red on one side, green on the other. Leave the green side up and they keep coming to your table and carving off slices of beef. Turn to red if you need a rest. I left mine on green, and had to be carried out. I wasn't hungry until about 5pm the following day.

  • Awesome steak knowledge on here, by the way. Was worried you might all be vegans. Thinking about starting londongfss.com (London Grass-Fed Steak Society).

  • Gaucho Grill if you want to blow some coin. One of the best steaks I've ever had, nice selection of red too, hit up the Argentine Malbec if you're down

  • LOL Fatbloke. Good work
the only downside is the pending meat sweats, flinching, drop in attention span and in-ability to shit for about 15 days!

    +1 for Whale hunting!

  • n and in-ability to shit for about 15 days!

Yeah, but how good is it when it finally arrives?

  • goucho grill do the best steaks i have ever had outside my home town, and as BIG as a mo'fo!
whole dang cow if ya want it.

    Stoopsombitch!

  • The Green Door Gloucester Road is an excellent steak house and has a superb cocktail bar for the birthday boy..:)

  • went too the gaucho too, watch out for them opening wine, they charge 10% of the bottle price to do so.
    good steaks tho.

  • Gaucho Grill (Broadgate Circle) is fantastic.
Gaucho Grill (Bank?) isn't as good.
Expect to spend shitloads in both. If possible, have your company pay :)

Still -1 for Gaucho - overpriced and a big chain now.

Anyway, real men eat their meat raw. Have a steak tartare at The Ivy, or go to a Maroush (Leb places on Beauchamp Place, Edgeware Rd or DeVere St) and have kibbeh nayah - raw minced lamb.

  • damn. i own my company. i lose.

  • Raw meat gives you the aidz.
Real men cook the shit out of their meat on a bbq until it's nice, tender and black as death.
    Gaucho still rocks.

  • Rules in Covent Garden. They have access to a small UK herd that was not put under the same age restriction as the rest of the UK beef stock during the BSE crisis. This means older, better marbled, more flavoursome British beef than you can buy anywhere else.

Wolfs, also in Covent Garden, sell Kobe.

  • -1 Gaucho Grills. Overpriced, overstyled and their grills aren't hot enough to cook a rare steak properly.
+1 the Argie place on Broadway Market
+11 Jack's Place on York Road in Battersea. A butcher that will cook your steak for you. Where the Springbok rugby players eat when they are in town.

  • Didn't know about Jack's Place - just read some reviews online, looks mega, am going.

  • I hear angus steakhouses are very popular...
