  • A good heart, these days, is hard to find.

So please be tender with this heart of mine.

  • why is it I can find lots of stuff about removing BBs but nowt on fitting them?

I have never put one together, thought I'd do some homework...

  • goddamn it skulldread.

it's because it's the easiest thing in the entire world.

  • just read the instructions in reverse order ;-)

  • Hey MultiG, how are ya? What happened with mr Renault Laguna man?

Yo Skull! I'm cool. Back in the saddle proper now. The illigal Angolan is probably eating Hob Knobs as we speak trying to get his head around Deal or No Deal.

    How's you?

  • From his grave??

Sheldon's wise words are still on the web for those of you without a link to the other side (as you well know!) :-) The article on adjustable bottom brackets is really good. Much more human than the Park site.

  • Can you over tighten one of these?

I have installed a similar BB to this with a fair amount of torque, and the spindle doesnt seem to be as free spinning as I'd thought. Is was brand new, and has yet to recieve chainset.

Will it simply bed in? or am I a clumsy ape?

  • Theoretically yes, although not likely. Back it off quater/half turn on the on drive side, see if it free's up any. It probably just needs to bed in.

  • I'll do that, cheers

  • With the chainset on it will spin more due to the added weight. I'm trying to think of the right word/phrase but as it's past 9:30am my brain isn't functioning too well.

  • Momentum?
BBs can feel a bit notchy if you twist them with your fingers but when you stick cranks/chain etc on they'll come out really smooth

  • Lift your back wheel up and spin your pedals. If it stops before you think it should your BB maybe too tight. Or your chain needs lubing. Or chain tension needs reducing.

Given the force generated by inertia of a rotating wheel and the relatively low rev rotation through a BB bearing (vs an hub bearing or a more extreme example a skateboard wheel) pretty much anything less than binding should be fine.
