• Wow. Such casual. Much normal looking. Very off the bike.

  • Are they dr martens?

  • wait a minute

  • Went for some DZR Minna's on sale at Urban Cyclery about £60

  • I've just got some DZR H2Os to complement my DZR Jetlags. Haven't used them in anger yet, but I'm pleased with them so far.

  • Are the jetlags nice? They seem to be a "summer only" choice

  • They are. Well, I like them - I've got two pairs, the Jetlag and the Jetlag Nero. I wouldn't say they're summer only, as I've been using them all year so far. Mind you, my commute is only 6 miles, made up of 4 1.5 mile saunters (1 at each end of the train journey in each direction), so it's not the most challenging testing environment.

The fact that they're only held on by a single Velcro strap does mean your feet tend to move around quite a lot. But it's handy for those panicky 'fuck I'm late' speed getaways in the morning. The prospect of having to tie laces with the H2Os is the only thing which is putting me off using them...

  • might be a stupid question but how do shoes like the Chrome Kursk SPDs stand up to fixie skidding? I think i'd prefer time atacs and casual SPD shoes to straps and normal shoes for pub bike shenanigans. Also, any tips on the cheapest place to buy?

Very well. Had mine around 1.5 years and gone through 3 sets of cleats. Daily use and the shoes still going strong.
Points to take note of though. I use a brake and skid mostly when I fancy it as opposed to 24/7. It would be better if you were ambidextrous to even out the stress on the plastic shoe base.
They are casual shoes, which means the rubber sole will wear out after time; that means your cleats will wear out quicker too.
That shouldn't be a deterrent though. They are good shoes. I'd buy them again with no hesitation. Make sure to buy them half a size smaller than what you normally wear.

  • I'll be using them brakeless but ambidextrous. I've only used proper road shoes before with SPD-SL cleats and stuff. Any ideas how they'd compare for stopping power? Similar? Thanks for the help by the way.

  • I'm now the proud owner of Quoc Pham Fixed shoes thanks to Appollo and they're super duper fucking comfy and smart looking and make feel as cool as fook.

I haven't popped out once yet with the SPD M520s, pretty solid for skidding.

  • might I add, I've barely used them really, but I didn't ride home brakeless last night

I've never used road shoes, so can't compare to them, but they're really bloody good. Much better then a canvas shoe should be. In some instances, they were far stiffer than a couple of MTB shoes I've used before.
The laces, while annoying to put on and remove, have yet to fail. They might un-tighten a bit after half a days riding, but then so do all shoes.
If you whip skid a lot, you will feel the shoe move a bit, but that's after really aggressive/downhill skids.

  • Cheers, sound worth a punt then! What's the worst that can happen?

  • Also, sorry for all the questions, but how do they fit? Smaller or larger than usual? I'm halfway between an 8 and a 9.

  • I'm a 13 with adidas, a 12 with Nike and I got 12 with DZR, fits perfect. A lot of people suggest buying half/full size smaller though

  • They said buy half a size down from normal shoes. I normally wear 7.5/8. I bought 7.5. They fit great. They have a bit of heel bite at the beginning, but they stretch just enough soon after.

  • Thanks again, I'll go for an 8 I reckon.

  • ltc if you're london based head into kinoko and try them on, chrome have a weird sizing where they come up like a size to a size and half larger than you think.

chromes are stiff and all, but I prefer the deeper cleat enclosure of the dzr's less chance of wearing out the cleat when walking...

  • I'm in Leeds so I ordered some online. I went for a smaller size than usual so fingers crossed! I can always exchange them if they're not right.

  • I had a look at some DZRs but much prefer the looks of the chromes.

  • Will you be taking these to Pariii Loz?

I'm liking the look of those Quoc Pham's... Might get those and saves me taking two pairs of shoes. Every gram counts haha!

  • I've been wearing them to drive about to ensure I've no issues fit wise, omg they're so comfy and the soles are nice and stiff. And they look ok with casual pants as well, which surprised me.

  • ^^ probably not, although it would be handy not to have to pack an extra set of shoes for off the bike. I'll see how I get on with them and time atacs vs proper road shoes and pedals.
