• (not my pic)

Giro LX Republics. Nice and stiff. Good looking pair of casual shoes from nice and supple leather.
Proper laces and did get a set of black walking pads to go with them as I quite don't fancy the gum colored ones. Also added life with replacement pads will probably be appreciated later on so won't bin the gum colored.

no hot spots with lacing and the rubber band helps with keeping them in tact.

scratch pretty easy but i imagine that with usage they become more to my liking aesthetically. tried the quod pham tourers, the last in these is slightly wider but snug enough and these won't probably need to stretch as much to be possibly deformed(as i've seen happen with some tourers) and also the hardened toe area will not be revealing toe lines as can happen with the tourers. true to size i think. 272mm/EUR44, I have quite narrow feet but these would accommodate at least a thicker socks size more in wideness.

also splendid to walk in, she-mano cleat not making any noise. looking forward to cycling with these.

  • Ahhh ... sorry but those look like something someone's dad would wear to try and look like they are a bit wacky and exciting, when really they're a chartered surveyer from Basingstoke.

  • What are they meant to look like? Skate shoes? Faux leather? Come on. They're not for posing in Shoreditch with. I'd rather be comfy and practical than some sort of mustachioed Tweed Run peacock or monochrome Mission Workshop advert. They've got decent Wiggle reviews. Gonna try a pair :P - They also come in black:

  • Hey,

I have DZR Minnas and run shimanos m520. I'm thinking upgrading to
a600 and have a question whether they are compatible.

    Thnx!

    Anyone?

  • Excelente reply. Would read again.

Does anyone know what Giros sizing is like? Specifically the Giro Rumble VR. Wide/narrow true to size, etc.

    Cheers.

  • I bought a pair of 45s and they were a bit small compared to my DZRs. Was planning on returning them anyway, so can't tell you what the 46s were like.

  • Thinking of finally ditching my trusty DZR's after many years of use as they're finally starting to fall apart. Pleased to see there's a girl version of the Giro Rumble VR, the Giro Petra VR.

I also stumbled across these, the Giro Alpineduro, not good for the summer but potentially a commuting gamechanger for winter. Waterproof and insulated, what more could you want for horrid commutes?

  • I have giro rumbles and terraduro size 47 is marginally roomier than a 47 sidi.

The alpineduro will be my winter workboot.

  • I've been using these for some time, which I imagine are similar. Shimano SH-MT44

They are great for commuting, light MTB, etc. Not an ultra-stiff race shoe feel. Certainly softish. Especially after walking in them a bit and getting back on the pedals you can feel the flex a bit more.

  • A friend/coworker used the Alpineduro shoe through an extra harsh winter here seeing 112+ inches of snow and months of temps below freezing. He recommends them, and says that they are incredibly warm. Too warm for moderately cold days.

  • Those Petra are wimmins?

They match my brake cable, tempted. They go up to 42 too :)

  • I've known some interesting and thoughtful chartered surveyors.

Basingstoke on the other hand is beyond redemption

  • Nice. Yeah my Sidi's are fine when I'm going A-to-B or alone, but meeting friends who don't have bikes (I know, why?), then lots of walking is involved, isn't much fun trotting around for ages. Probably not good for ankles etc too. Gonna try some of the Shimano offerings. Hopefully will fit well.

  • I've just bought Rumble VR in 45 (UK 10). I veer between 9.5 and 10 usually. They feel reasonably wide and roomy in the toe box without my foot moving around. They didn't have the 44 to try on; I suspect that they would have fit OK if I didn't have a slightly-wider-than-average foot. Which I think means they're pretty true to size generally.

  • Anyone tried shimano ut70?

  • Phoc Pham Hardcourt Boot update:

Great in winter. Fsking hot in summer. Anyone recommend a nice, low profile, vented casual shoe?

  • After utfs-ing I read that once upon a time cyclesurgery used to stock DZR. Going by their website it looks like that's no longer the case. Does anyone know of anywhere I could try on a pair of DZR minna in London? no idea what size I'd need.

  • I have a pair of size 10 DZR Minna ... £30
They are one size too big for me.

  • Just got a pair of these, damn are they good.

  • Well decided to give the Giro Empire VR90 a go. So far very comfortable and light to walk around in.

  • how stiff are they when you walk in them?

  • Seems pretty comfortable, but then again I used to walk in Bonts so anything after that is good.

  • So casual...

  • got my giro alipineduro boots today (managed to use an evans discount code on them) so my feet will feel warm and snug and i will feel smug when it gets cold and wet this winter
