  • You got the tennis socks on inside out today, RPM?

    ;-)

  • Ok ChrisCrash. I let you off for not growing up in schools here. If you know who said "Father, I cannot tell a lie, it was I that chopped down the cherry tree", we'll call it even-stephen.

It was Benjamin Franklin. Learned that in school in America. Stuck with me I'm afraid. I thought, "if I cut down my dad's favourite tree, would I tell him, then let him beat seven bells out of me"? No way. Mr.Franklin was a rare man.

Franklin did get seven shades beaten out of him. Not because of the cherry tree, but because of his grammar. He should have said, "Father, I cannot tell a lie, it was I who chopped down the cherry tree."

  • don't call HH bumpy.

  • In some languages the word for "christian" sounds almost exactly like "cretin". I think the bible has been seriously misinterpreted...

  • pajamas, I think I did pretty well; as I'd remembered, though not exactly** *ad verbatim***, but pretty accurately after nearly 30 years of not seeing nor hearing the phrase. But I'm sure I shall remember it more keenly in future.

  • GA2G I wasn't doubt the accuracy of your quote - just ruminating on Franklin's poor grasp of relative pronouns and the punishment that was probably metered out in those days.

  • what's the difference between a track bike and a courier bike?
it's the same as the difference between cheese and cheddar! ;-)
a lot of courier bikes are track bikes. i think what you're wondering about here is the difference between track bikes and conversions.
a track frame is intended to be used fixed from day 1. it has track ends, tight geometry, and probably isn't drilled for a rear brake.
a conversion is a geared road bike which has had the gears taken off. it will have larger clearances to allow for bigger tyres or mudguards, more relaxed geometry, and front facing dropouts (or vertical dropouts with a chain tensioner of some description).
sheldon brown's site has all the info you could ever want to know about it!

  • vertiacl track ends,

    you mean horizontal right?

Vertical is what you get on geared bikes since the late 80's

  • chris is horizontally challenged...

  • a track frame is intended to be used fixed from day 1. it has track ends, tight geometry, and probably isn't drilled for a rear brake.

No, if it's a real TRACK frame SET (as opposed to a fixie frame or what used to be called a road/path frame), it DEFINITELY will not have a drilling for a front brake.

  • Poo.

    Everywhere I look - poo.

    Poo poo poo.

    And some wee.

    stop spying on me!

and they're "mountain bike socks" anyway

Swiss Tony told me that stilting the blood flow to the feet increase penis size. (not that I need to) but it never hurts to bulk up

  • i hear the inner tubes of courier bikes are made of live puppies.

  • I experienced this kind of logic in a German pizza place the other day,
Feta cheese is not cheese apparently because it comes from a goat and not a cow.
A track bike is a cow, a courier bike is a goat or something like that

  • Feta is traditionally made from sheep's milk I think.

  • end pedant.

  • Ok adds to the point even more,
a courier bike is a cross breed of cow and sheep.
"in Greek and Levantine cuisine, Feta (Greek: φέτα) is a brined curd cheese traditionally made in Greece and the Levant with ewe's and goat's milk. Since 2005, feta has been a protected designation of origin in the European Union, and defined as having at least 70% sheep's milk,"

  • Feta is traditionally made from sheep's milk I think.

It's actually breast milk that curdles during the sea voyage from Greece. Fact.

  • Hi,
Can someone pls. explain what is the difference between a track bike and the single speed bikes the couriers ride around on in London.
    Are these the same things?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,

    One's clean and one's absolutely f*cking filthy.

I was always told that it was George Washington

  • Hi,

Surely a track bike has a fixed wheel, and a ss has a free-wheel....whether or not its ridden by a courier.

  • I was always told that it was George Washington

    me too

  • One's clean and one's absolutely f*cking filthy.

    true dat!

    yeah, i know that.
i was just trying to keep it simple as the fork could have been changed along line or drilled for a brake at some point if you were looking at second hand stuff.
