  • Dude! Thats sounds nasty... what do you mean by incorrect garments?!? Are you back on the bike now?

Std boxers + Jeans + slack saddle in sticky, humid conditions for 13 hours
instead of padded cycling underwear plus shorts.
The cavity is slowly closing up and I can ride now.

  • Specilized Avator. Get your arse measured for it with one of them pad things and get the right size. Very comfy.
Or any Specilized Body Gemotry saddles will do.
I have been on the Specilized Avator for over 5 hours and it was still comfy at the end. Did have well padded shorts on. Been on it in normal shorts for about 60, wasnt as comfy at the end but if your only doing short rides its a nice saddle.

After trying many saddles these were the ones for me.I think I have a different model though. It is also worth sitting on the arse measuring thing to get the right size for you. I apparently have a skinny arse. I rode on this for 15 hours/300k in sweden recently and it stood up to the challenge.

  • Regal for long rides, SLR for all-around...

  • +1 the slr.

  • I've just broken a Specialized Toupe Team which I was going to change due to comfort issues anyway. I've heard that they aren't up to the extra loads involved in fixed riding and this would seem to confirm that. It's a carbon saddle as well, not very impressed! The shell cracked almost the whole way across, from the back left wing almost into the gap in the middle. Warranty time methinks.

I'm going to try the Fizik Arione, I know a number of roadies that use it and swear by it's comfort. I'm going to get on it ASAP as I will now be using it for Dunwich and I want to get my sweet behind used to it before that.

  • +1 to the Arione, but it costs the Earth.

  • gotta black on black arione for sale soon (hi-jack:)

I broke my Spec Toupe after 14 months of commuting 8 miles each way; actually a gradual break over this time with it cracking and splitting from both corners. Replaced it with a new Toupe, which I fully anticipate will split in time. To be expected from a super lightweight seat, I'm afraid.

Comfiest saddle ever; even for 5 hour club runs.

  • Mine took significantly less time than that to snap. I guess it's a fair point about lightweight saddles, still surprising that it breaks so quickly. It would seem that each pro rider that uses it can't even expect it to last something like the TDF in that case! It always felt weedy though, I just touched an Arione today and was very impressed with how much sturdier it felt than the Toupe.

  • gonna get my saddle down to the re-fitters, got me some un-born calf hide and get some rhinestones embedded in the edges............... yeehaa!

    Stoopsombitch!

  • this is on my tourer, get one

  • ^ looks like a medieval torture device!

  • if you sit too far forward, it is

  • strangely some people have issues with their arse when it comes to bikes.
Personally I've only had that issue on 50+ mile bike rides where i think its inevitable that eventually your arse will become sore no matter what.

This is a picture of my seat, one i bought in Brick lane Market for a £1.
Best most comfortable seat I've ever owned. You'll notice it has no padding. I think the padding clings to your butt checks more and causes chaffing.
So don't be attracted to well cushioned seats, on bikes it's not a good thing, in my experience anyway.
Sheldon has a good topic on this http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_sa-o.html#saddle with lots of links for good reading

  • Hi guys got a seat related question to ask.....i need a new seat post for a peugeot frame, it seems to be smaller than any other seat post i've seen. It measures approx 23mm, i think peugeot parts are a bit hard to come by, any ideas???

  • 23 mm is very short omg ! Honey i Shrunk the seat post !

  • if its a peugeot carbolite frame it'll be 24mm, get a 23.4 and shim it up

  • Had my Charge spoon saddle for a day and its so uncomfortable. I am in pain.
I need a new saddle, looking at a Selle San Marco Concor, A Selle San Marco Rolls or a Concor Light? Any thoughts. I know the racer type saddles are'nt going be like arm chairs but would be good to know if its similar to sitting on razor wire or actually alright? My boney arse has been spoiled.

  • Had my Charge spoon saddle for a day and its so uncomfortable. I am in pain.

if it uncomfortable, try adjusting it, sometime a saddle can be the most uncomfortable saddle ever, and by says tipping the nose down a bit by a mere millimetre can make it the most comfortable saddle ever.

do spend times adjusting and tweaking the saddle, it won't be comfortable straight out of the box if you just wack it on your seat post and ride away, unless you happen to just got it set up perfectly by chance.

  • ive just got a charge spoon TI doodad for my geared bike, it was uncomfrotable until i tilted the nose up. every saddle ive ever had has been uncomfortable for me when its set to being level, putting the nose up looks a bit lame, but its definatly what my undercarage finds comfortable.

i like the charge spoon but part of me wants to go back to my good old selle san marco regal, i think after riding it daily for a couple of years ive just got used to the way it feels. with that said i dont know if it would be as comfortable on my geared bike as it were on my fixed.

  • Thanks for the advice, will adjust it and see how I go.
    cheers

  • Don't you sort of have to train your arse into being comfortable on a saddle? Get riding more and it'll sort it's self out as your bum 'toughens up'?

That said the charge spoon is dead comfy.

  • the SLR Gel Flow is awesome. I had one for years on an XC bike, need to get another for my roady.

  • just get a selle italia flite

  • Don't you sort of have to train your arse into being comfortable on a saddle?

kinda, some saddle need breaking in to get it a little more comfortable, like the Rolls for instance.
