I've tried that, and it works for recording from the ipod to the tape, but won't play out loud. grrrr.

I think it's going to be a case of taking the back off, cutting the cables from the tape input and connecting them to a mini-jack cable. I think the ipod nano i've got might even fit inside the tape deck too, so the whole thing could be done inside with no wires etc hanging out.

4 more weeks before I can ride again, gah!

That'd be pretty sweet, wiring it into the back and using the tape deck as a pod holster, how do you power this beast? Four D cells? Would be awesome if it could all be powered of the iPod, essentially turning the boom box into a glorified set of headphones!

split them out, so you can still play tapes too. Then wire to your mic input (who uses the mic input anyway)

why not just get a tape adaptor, no wiring or adjustment needed, just stick the tape in and plug the jack into your headphone socket on the ipod
