The use of an Angle Grinder

  • I need to borrow an Angle Grinder from someone.

It's to chop a D-Lock in half, and possibly parts of a bike.

Basically someone locked a Specialized road bike to the iron fence of my office, and someone else a week later tried to steal said bike by rotating the bike in the air so that it would leverage the D-Lock off.

It didn't work, the bike should now be in the Epic Fail thread as it's top tube is bent to hell, and the rear wheel ruined.

Ironically the bike has pitlocks on it so someone cared once, but perhaps not now.

Anyhow, point is... the bike has to come off the fence as it's clearly now abandoned and is a bit of an eyesore.

So angle grinder, cabled up is fine as we can run an extension... and then we'll take the bike off bike cutting the D-Lock and maybe a few spokes on the back wheel.

    Anyone able to help out?

  • I have a angle grinder VB but needs extension which you sat you have (I have a 10m one if any help). I can bring it into work tomorrow and run it down to Bedford Square. If you want.

  • yep.

got one in the van, right now.

little one, just need to put a metal cutting disc in

  • ask asm :)

  • Use a good hack saw? 5 mins, job done?

  • htfu and bite it off

    Tomorrow post-work then?

    Who can do it?

It's basically opposite Wagamama on Streatham Street. WC1B 3SR.

  • er...VB you takin this home or doing it at work somewhere? Might have a pair of risers need a quick chop tomorrow - wondered if I could join in. If it's happening on the spot as it were...could I bring'em over?

I have an angle grinder - with metal cutting disc - would need somewhere to plug it in (obviously) - no problem for me to do if it doesn't work out with the other offers.

My little brother is a manager of several Wagamamas (although not that particular one) so perhaps a phone call would see us siphon off some of their noodley electricity ?

  • [Edit: re-read your post - seems you are sorted for power]

Sure... post-work (around 6pm) at the place mentioned in the first post.

  • I wouldn't be able to bring it into town at that time David, sorry.

    over to tommy and tynan

  • I'll be able to help. I'll pm you my number later.

  • can i come and stand around?

  • can i come and stand around?

    Why the hell not.

There's £20 in it for the person with the angle grinder. The office manager just said that perhaps they should bribe you so that if we ever need a hand in future someone would be available.

I feel part responsible, I went on a crusade about making sure we didn't have any of those "No bicycles to be locked to railings" signs, and then we go and end up with a broken bike locked permanently and uglifying the building. Ooops.

  • should i bring various metal objects for us to cut... or just a few beers.

  • Heh.

The bike locked up is all we need to cut. Which is: D-Lock, a few spokes... worst case scenario the top tube.

The poor thing is ruined, and I feel sorry for the owner as obviously they were concerned about theft to the point that they'd spent money on pitlocks.

  • @VB Ok pm sent, grinder in bag after being lugged around London on errands. :)

@Pajamers. I would recommend borrowing a pipe cutter for a cleanest cut of your risers. However I am happy to do them if you wish and have always achieved a good result myself. Bring with you a rule or ruler, some masking or insulation tape (for marking) and if they are not on a bike a rag / old t shirt so when I stand on them to hold the bars securely I don't scratch them.

  • wicked, cheers for advice Tommy, i'll get all that together. Yep, no bike attached. I think I have the measurements already so I'll try and measure it out beforehand.

VB: cheers for letting me muck in, looking forward to seeing you..

Chris: like your style dude, just coming for the destruction..

    Easts after?

  • BLIMEY its a bit frightening all these bods with axle grinders and white vans it makes one wonder what they get up to after dark..;)

  • after 6 pm prob 6:15 ish see you later.

Make sure the tape is at a nice 90 degree angle to the bar so as to act as a good guide. See you later. No drinks for me I am afraid.

  • 2 questions, where exactly is this, and what do you drink vb

pj easts after, is my plan

  • Nr wagamumas Nr Bedford Squr.

  • Post code in the first post, Google Map it.
