  • What rare shit you chattin? 110.5 Crew gonna smoke ya Fool.

  • and all for only one million english pounds.

Got mine free with a crap old frame I bought about a year ago, 25 quid frame with 'free' carbon BB and record pista headset, happy days.

  • Is the Hatta so good that it should be classed with the Royce and Phil Woods'?

The Hatta and Sugino 75 are supposedly fantastically smoth but are unsealed loose bearing BBs. They are up there in quality with Royce and Phil but it should be noted that they are loose ball and unsealed.

  • 111mm, wid da goldtec's, fools!

  • Isn't/wasn't there a bb that was re-greased via syringe? This design meant that bearings needed changing far less than normal. When I used to follow the mtb scene (not ride, just get the latest goss) I remember that this seemed like a really good invention. I think the bb had 2 holes in the middle of the casing that were impervious to dirt and water, and grease was syringed in under force, which pushed out the older grease?

  • at condor, the primatos are selling for 20 squids

  • ^ thr primato in the web page at the top is £11 something

  • Gorgeous Phil's, Exquisite Royce's, or the Brilliant Hatta's?

    Me, biased? Never.

  • i noticed phil wood make outboard bearings for newer roadie cranks.

  • Gorgeous Phil's, Exquisite Royce's, or the Brilliant Hatta's?

    Me, biased? Never.

Nicole Cooke won Gold at the Worlds/Olympics on a Royce Bottom Bracket Axle.

That's all you need to know! However, I use Phil's, which are expensive enough and still 50quid cheaper than Royce's!

  • (first post, bear with me)
I was about to part with the cash for a Record pista BB but bottled out due to the lack of seals (I live in Norway which is very wet). I ended up buying a overly techy Token Tiramic BB (111mm asymmetric, iso taper, british threaded). On paper it looks great -

    Ceramic bearings
    Titanium races/ spindle
    carbon shell
    165g (claimed)

In reality the asymmetric-ness(?) might not be the same as the campy (I assume, but have no idea) and it might have the life expectancy of a mayfly. I'll post a quick review when I finish the build (bob jackson vigorelli with italian bits, and silly BB).

  • Good first post, some useful info.

    Welcome **Smallfurry **by the way.

  • Cheers,

forgot to mention that the Token BB is roughly the same price as the campy record BB.

  • Know its a bit 'horses for courses' but is there any sensible comparison that can be drawn between the campy pista BB and the phil wood BB? 50% road (probably mostly in the dry) 50% track, pairing with modern pista cranks.

I find the campag's to be super spinney, not tried the phil. Is the phil all about robust last forever? I don't care about weight (I using a steel bike for f%&£ sake)

I find the phil wood hubs are not very spinny, more last forever, even compared to knackered old campy road hubs.

  • Prices added.

Admit it, you lot are spoiled. :))

  • campag centaur. cheap and high quality.

+1 mine is still great after a year. all weather

    bumpity bump.

this was written a year ago. what's the status now. what's the best allround BB around the £100 mark at the moment?

  • Personally, if I were to invest in a really top notch bb, I'd look at Hope first, then weigh it up against the Hatta.
But if there were no budgetary restraints, I get the Royce, and never look back.

  • Hope are sold as 'upgrades'? Who's going to take pity on me and explain? Does that mean you use the spindle and such from your old BB? Does it matter much what quality/brand your old BB was?

  • Hope bottom brackets can be installed as new, or upgraded from any Hollowtech type bottom bracket.

However, since it is an External bb, you are correct, it will need an appropriate spindle. It can use a square taper, or howitzer, or other spindles, via adaptors.

  • would one of the benefits of loose ball BB be longer life? i.e. as they wear they can be adjusted?

with sealed units you need to replace them once they develop any play?

  • Guys, where can I find the best BB in price/quality for a Sugino RD crankset (68 X 103).

Supposedly a Tange model is recommended, but I can't find anyone for sale at the usual european websites... I'm refusing to pay $30 to have one shipped from the USA, but if I have to...

  • Soon to add the very excellent Pace Racing RC80 Bottom Bracket.

  • Ok, I've got one to add to the high end...

SKF bottom bracket is superb, meant to last ten years blah blah blah. Basically rolhoff material.
