btw for all you dissers out there (oh yeah that's "dissenters" not "disrespecters") the spoke card, just like the humbled Tshirt, has limitless print possibilities just so long as you come up with one that isn't shit. Then it's shit, gay, slave, whatever you want. But original, opaque, in-joke, in-crowd, funny...these are gooood.....

+1, theres plenty of other stupid things that we do to our bikes, why not make a joke out of those rather than some made up story of slaves riding to freedom on a fixed gear bike, it just isnt that funny, compared to arrospok or something else.
Joel, that's not the etymology of the phrase hip hop slave bike. It was invented by Tynan (afaik) as a mockery of the way our bikes are branded as cool by the ill informed media (as shown in that alice fisher article).
Sorry if I'm coming down a bit hard, but what you think the meaning comes from isn't funny, and I don't want to see a completely benign (and amusing) phrase get tainted.

neophyte, if someone hasn't already offered you, I have a bunch of those LFGSS spoke cards (unlaminated) of both types. I'm based in camberwell - you can have a bunch for free.

Seriously the idea of a spoke card is to have something to take away after an event so your wheel becomes like scarp book. Traditionally they come from alley cats but people have made them for rides so get involved with things or design a card for a ride, go on it and hand them out to people on the ride. Better to have a card with a story / reason behind it that just for the sake of it.
I'm more of a traditionalist i guess. spoke cards from not races are up there with langsters. just sayin. -

I have spoke cards from events but never put them in my spokes for the same reason. In general though I think a spoke card at least needs a event behind it.

Lidl have got laminators and laminating pouches on offer this week (at least the Brixton branch does).
And sea bream for fish people. Oh and Fish Kebabs with Pineapple. Which is wrong.
