  • Very similar thing happened last night..

Just after Vauxhall the bro and I went through a light flashing amber, cabbie beeped us for some reason and we thought not much of it. He then caught up and overtook us and as the traffic slowed started pulling into 'our' area and tried to run us off the road and onto the pavement.

I passed him and called him a wanker for it (not the most mature thing to do I admit) and what followed was a hilarious 5 minutes all the way to Clapham North. The bro hit the gas but as I was heading up past stockwell and up to Clapham the guy was in the road making a gun sign with his fingers and yelling "I'm gonna fucking shoot you blahd!" and was offering me out for a fight in the middle of the road. I passed him again and got onto the pavement (another no-no I admit but with his irrational driving it was the only safe place) to which he was leaning over and telling me that I was a cnut and that he was going to shoot me etc etc

I asked him what he was going to shoot me with and if he was going to do it would he please hurry up; and then dropped the school boy classic "go f-k your mother" and then was out and off leaving behind an aggressive small man syndrome taxi driver stuck at a red in rush hour traffic.

    fuck cab drivers.

  • I don't think it helps to say that all cab drivers are c$%^ts and retaliate by being agressive or damage their property. If "you" react like that then maybe "you" shouldn't be on the road either.

Yes this guy needs to be reported, he's a professional and has made a HUGE mistake. If I started shouting abuse at my colleagues and throw staplers at them I think they'd sack me or send me for counselling.

What about calling the police when it happens and tell them that you are under shock and very worried that the cab is behaving dangerously etc.... You would do that if you saw any dangerous situation?

The police would not be interested.

  • sorry don't have time to check all posts.
Call the police, same kind of thing happened to me, LTI won't do anyhting without a police log of the incident.

    Do it.

  • The police would not be interested.

  • hello all. On a lighter note -was just laughing at the fact that google ads took this oppurtunity to advertise taxi cabs to me at the bottom of the page

  • attempted murder?

they should be. get their attention by not mentioning you were on a bike. just say a cab tried to run you over, screaming that he didn't care if he killed you. tell them you have his license number and you want him arrested.

You would need more evidence than just your word.

  • attempted murder?

Absolutely! What do these guys think is going to happen if they hit you with their car? Even if they just slightly brush/tap/swerve into you, they are going to cause you serious injury if not death. How exactly is this different to a guy pulling out a knife or attacking you with a baseball bat.

This shit gets me so angry.

  • i thought it was T3 1CH, i have a pic on my phone but the plate is blurry.

    Looks like Edgeware Road (?).

Congestion charge cameras in full swing. These machines record number plates and times.

not to make a complaint, no. they are duty bound to take it seriously.

  • not to make a complaint, no. they are duty bound to take it seriously.

What can I say, without evidence, witnesses and so on, they will do nothing.

  • they'll still have to follow it up, and him getting a knock at the door is better than nothing, right?

  • it's unlikely you could d-lock a car window in London without there being 100's of witnesses, believe me, they'll see a nutter cyclist attacking a car even if they didn't see the driver trying to kill you.

it's unlikely you could d-lock a car window in London without there being 100's of witnesses, believe me, they'll see a nutter cyclist attacking a car even if they**** did**** see the driver trying to kill you.

  • I had fantasies of punching him, d-locking the cab etc. etc. but this is not the answer. All that would happen is that the situation would escalate - cyclists and cabbies alike would anticipate violence and prepare themselves accordingly (viz. a different, rather worrying thread on this forum).

As RPM pointed out, the situation on the roads has already escalated way out of proportion. Using a vehicle as a battering ram to defend perceived rights is homicidal. And as Vee Vee says, the cabbie's unfit for purpose - needs a holiday, councilling, 5 days commuting on a bike, a big bifter - whatever required to get him out of his current mental state. I wouldn't get into a cab with him driving and his passengers didn't looks too happy about it...

In retrospect, the best thing to have done would have been to very calmly and not abusively got his details, asked the passengers for their details (to be witnesses - they seemed up for it) and report the incident to his professional body and the police. I think this would put the shits up him more than resorting to abuse or violence. It would have shown him that he'd transgressed, was in the wrong and that I had the power (intellectual & legal) over him: to lose him his job, make mortgage repayments very difficult, give him an awkward conversations with family & friends. Even if it went no further, it'd make him think twice. The moment he saw DB taking pictures of his cab he wound his neck in pretty sharpish.

If I can get the details (can't believe between us DB & I couldn't even get the cab's plates), this is still the route I will pursue. I was the victim and he was the transgressor. I have the moral high ground and need to maintain it rather than reduce myself to his level.

    Less hate, more understanding people.

  • they'll still have to follow it up, and him getting a knock at the door is better than nothing, right?

What would they say/do when they knocked on his door ?

Without evidence and witnesses they would not even take it to this stage.

  • Carry cameras, keep them handy.

It seems to be mightily impressive.

We could always stay a blog to list dangerous cabbies, searchable by license plate.

  • i've got another closer photo, but a fluoro vested noddy is in the way :(

  • tynan - yes, they would. i know this for a fact, as i have been in this position. i have made a complaint, told them that there were no witnesses, and they went and had a word anyway, in order to give him something to think about.

the police are much maligned. i have found whenever i have needed them they have been responsive and responsible, much in contrast to what everybody says.

  • @ Tynan: good point re C-Charge, I'll investigate that route.

If it comes to nothing through lack of evidence, so be it. However, if there is record of complaint with the police, it shows this does not seem to be a one off transgression; if there's a complaint with the taxi licensing boday it puts a mark on this guy's record the next time he does something similar. (There are good and bad people in all walks of life, looks like he falls into the latter category - I'd wager this isn't the first or last time).

  • Carry cameras, keep them handy.

Even with a crystal clear image of the license plates of a cab that tried to kill you 500 yards up the road it is still your word against theirs.

Witnesses are the answer, the more the merrier. CCTV footage would seal it.

  • it was clearly a wanky wanky thing to do and i've no doubt i'd have turned the air blue and reported the guy too if i could but attempted murder? really? that seems a little hysterical to me.

  • Don't bother writing to TFL - they don't do anything. I wrote to them about a psycho cunt cabbie before and they said I need to speak to the police because they don't deal with shit like this.

I thought it quite fucked that they hand out licenses but can't revoke them. So, you need to speak to the cops.

  • tynan - yes, they would. i know this for a fact, as i have been in this position. i have made a complaint, told them that there were no witnesses, and they went and had a word anyway, in order to give him something to think about.

This is not a 'fact' as such, just your own experience, I think the general rule is that without supporting evidence it is just your word against his.

What is there to stop me (or anyone) making a nuisance (false) charge against someone I dislike, getting the police to go and 'have a word' and 'give him something to think about' ?
