I know, isn't it strange.
They're not paying, but it's still advertising. The parties involved don't know it's been done.
It's just me raising awareness that within 1 week 2 magazines will be launched by people who are really into cycling, and whose magazines will reflect so much of the scene both locally and globally as well as across fixed, track, BMX and other forms of cycling.
It's quite something, 2 new magazines at the same time.
So basically I thought it's a good thing if for a week before their launch I try and let people know that they exist and are working hard to do something cool.

Hey VB
That was a surprise this morning. Thanks for putting that up there - it does look weird, though!
I hope that you can make it on Saturday to check out the launch - if not, let me know and I'll make sure that you get a copy of the mag.
Thanks again

I'm no designer. I couldn't make it look pretty if I tried (and I did).
I've yet to get someone to make me a really pretty header and footer for this site.

These hoardings were erected without planning permission and, under the terms and conditions of the Town & Country Planning Act (1974), you are obliged to remove them at your own expense within 28 days of this notice.

As a matter of principle, I don't think they should be there either. Individuals involved can 'advertise' by posting, but if you're going to have banners ads, then there are probably hundreds of other new fixed enterprises going on that 'might be of interest'.
I'm registered with this site, and one of the perks is no advertising. I wish every success to the magazines involved, but I resent being marketed at. This is a socio-political issue. It's often when people 'chill' that they get exploited.

Earth to BMMF, Earth to BMMF, hello...

Erm, BMMF... there are adverts... just log out and you'll see them.
And the difference between being marketed at and being informed is surely who is telling you something and whether they're being paid to.
I'm not being paid to, and I certainly am not trying to sell you something. And I actually know you.
If the images were gone and it were just text as I've done in the past: "Upcoming: Ride Magazine Launch and Fixed Magazine Launch"... then would anyone have said anything? What's the difference? I'm guessing it's just your perception of what a banner advert is and an instant correlation from that to evilness, even though there is nothing evil in this, no money has exchanged hands and I only put them up because it IS awesome that 2 magazines have appeared at the same time.

There changed to links.
And the difference?

i think what bmmf meant is that one of the perks of [i]registering[/] with the site is that there are no ads - oh, actually, that's pretty much what he said:
I'm registered with this site, and one of the perks is no advertising.
i also agree that there is every possibility for people to have threads, and for them to be made "sticky" but having it in your face is not so nice. particularly when one of them is actually advertising for a shop, not a magazine.
nb, seems you can only add to someone's reputation once before you then have to "spread it around" ;-)

Weird!
