  • Bin Laden?

  • I think ぶらぶら means to sway or swing to and fro; or to loiter or to loaf idly

    It's stroll.

  • It would slow you down a lot on a straight flat road where a monster gear of about 50/13 would enable you to really hammer it down for a good few miles. But in traffic. I cant imagine anything beating a fixed/SS

  • Except a geared road bike.. or slicked mtb with gears.. or a geared cross bike.. or..

If you have the same rider on two bikes on variable terrain the geared rider will go faster.
Why? Because they can take off faster and still have a higher top speed. And if you are going to make the weight argument then I'd suggest dieting, not driveline removal.

Fixed/SS is more fun in traffic, less to worry about, cheaper, easier to maintain, etc. blah blah but don't think it's faster having less gears.

  • If I was trying to go fast, gears would win. Just reiterating what hippy said, I can corner quicker, start quicker, achieve a higher top speed, maintain a higher top speed, etc. As long as you know how to use a set of brakes (and shifters) properly, it's no less manoeuvrable in traffic either. Can be a bit scarier though.

But I like having a fixed hack bike for the other reasons hippy mentioned. He's so wise and rational and experienced and everything, it's no wonder dogsballs is stalking him in all cycling contexts.

  • hehe ooohhh stop it bmmf you're making my ego moist.. it's that kind of talk that'll get me post whoring all over again..

  • Singlespeed and fixed don't slow you down. Gears speed you up. One has to take the historical perspective...

  • One prefers to take the upskirt perspective...

I disagree with this. If I was racing myself on my slick mountain bike against my fixed. I would cane the MTB version of myself hands down accross any distance and any terrain. Apart from say, it was a massive uphill going on for miles

  • Any terrain?

    Feel free to disagee.
It's your right to be wrong...

  • Any distance? Any terrain?
Wtf is the point of your mountain bike?

    EDIT; too slow

  • Single out the mtb why don't you. It would still win.
Lower low gear, higher top gear. Mine was sans-suspension, fast tyres, very aero positioning.
So, I will continue to disagree.

Should've posted with your fixed and not your slick mtb. You might've beaten me to it ;)

  • how much slower a singlespeed is than a geared bike will depend on the SS gearing, and its appropriateness for the terrain, and by how much the terrain varies.

but yeah, what hippy and bmmf said.

    Damn my mtb to hell

how the fuck do you get aero????????????
the only aero you get is

    :)

  • It's the bubbles

  • I have a slick fixed mtb, because that's how you win elections these days.

  • Any terrain?

By any terrain I meant any road in London

I get aero because I'm not a crusty old frequent-crashing yokel and can actually bend parts of my body as opposed to snapping them in directions they haven't moved for 20 years. Go on, touch your toes.. I dare ya. :P

Spy shots of 31trum in yoga class..

  • What this all proves is that technology does make a difference.

Does it make the sport more exciting by putting in the extra layers of technology that truly is personal. I'd like to see some races (not all by a long shot) where the competitors where all on standard bike with the only difference being sizing, saddles, bar width and bar tape.

  • That's called the Athlete's Hour Tommy.. or Keirin racing in Japan.. or the track day for this forum if you all use club bikes :)
