TFL's cycling directions are the same as Google's from my home to work. TFL says 8.3 miles and Google says 9.2. I make it 8.7. Perhaps the map sites use straight lines and don't factor in changing lanes or weaving on and off the pavements, over small cars, jumping skips and charging through pedestrians queing at bus stops in Westminster (bit of a detour) to avoid stopping.

Ive done that. A trip from Shoreditch to Richmond took me 3.5 hours and twice the the recommended distance. It was the first weekend i got my unipack. Epic fail on a unipack. I was a broken man after that weekend.
