  • I won't be getting in a car with you in a hurry

    Obviously....

Thats my car in the big pot hole in the road! Thats what it looks like. A Big pot hole...

  • TBH, both the link and the pic have disappeared... My internetz dont like it cause the pipes are too cold.

Andy, im not disagreeing with you. But i still think it could be taken to be a road accidentally.
Funnily, i would be * tempted * if i knew it was ice and i could get a car on there. Not saying i would actually do it, but the temptation would be there...

And Ed, what are the consequences of agreeing with you???

  • Oh tongue in cheek, got a bit of a reputation of talking bollocks here.

  • a ride of a lifetime.... amazing

googled it to see the road he took before ending up there, no luck though, would be interesting to see

  • Sea Sheperd Conservation society aquires futuristic batman-like sea racing boat (no doubt worth a fortune) For intercepting and blocking whaling ships.

Due to its speed capabilities, up to 50 knots, Captain Paul Watson (Sea Shepherd President and Founder) intends to use the Ady Gil to intercept and physically block the harpoon ships from illegally slaughtering whales.
Says Captain Watson, “We’re very excited that the Ady Gil will be joining the Steve Irwin in Antarctica this campaign. With these two ships, we will mount the most ambitious and aggressive effort to date to obstruct the slaughter of the whales in the Southern Ocean.”

They just unveiled it in October, but it turns out using it to ' physically block' whaling vessels was a really bad idea.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dXCR9LX-Kc

It is now at the bottom of the sea.

  • It's said in all articles / reports that they got run over, but doesn't it look like they start to go forwards 15 secs into the vid? Basically putting themselves in the way of the ship?

  • yeah sounds like they planned to put themselves in the way to halt the ship, but the ship just carried on into them
real kick in the teeth is when they fire the hoses at them as they are sailign past, after obliterating their ship

  • Indeed, they even stated all over the place that their intention was to "physically block" ships.

Its seems ridiculously idiotic, why provoke an attack like that if you have no means of fighting back. They shouldve mounted a gun to that motherfucker if they were serious. Or just get out of the bloody way!

  • do you really think that they were attempting to block the ship? lets think about this. now sea shepherd don't really pay attention to the question "is this a good idea" more, "what will this achieve". now intentionally putting a comparitivly tiny, composite, fucking expensive boat, in the way of a massive, steel, fast moving whaling ship.

    a) this would likely result in the injury of the crew of their boat, not good
    b) this would likely sink their boat, not good
    c) this is not likely to stop any whaling, not good
    d) if media thinks they intentionally got in the way, they get bad press, not good
    e) if found guilty of getting in the way, they get bad press, and lose members, not good
    f) for a charity, to intentionally ruin a $2 million boat, do you think they will get an insurance pay out if it is ruled it was their fault? so they just pissed $2million away for another week of being in the media under bad press

sounds incredibly unlikely that paul watson, though always wanting good press, and a bit nuts, would endanger the lives of his crew in such a way.

watch this, showing the moment right up to the crash (skip to 2.30 if you want)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfGM-LzGKjc

the boat is stopped in the water, and turned into by the other ship.

even if they intentionally got in the way, don't you think it is fucking outrageous that the other ship just sailed away?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bbuq0YEIPNU

in this video, you can clearly see the other ship turn towards the ady gil, and at the last moment the ady gil appears to move, possibly to turn right and avoid the collision, but even if they hadn't it would have been hit anyway.

    /rant.

er ships can't stop that well, so they would have had to be hundreds of meters in front for it to have had time to stop, in which case it could just go around.

which sounds more likely, a charity pissing away $2million and almost killing its members for no apparent gain, or a whaling ship destroying the property of an organisation that is costing them millions of dollars a year?

  • i'm glad to see the sea shepherd charity are spending the money donated by the hard working folk on useful things to save the seas and not just fast expensive toys

muppets ... i hope it's ensured or we'll be seeing a few more chuggers out on the streets collecting for SSC ! help them buy a ferrari for chasing the whale meat sellers

  • So Paul Watson got chucked out of Greenpeace for approaching things the wrong way.

Better to educate than to aggravate?

Hard to stop but they managed to change direction pretty sharpish. Watch the vid. It seems to me that it actively sought to hit the protesters.

Whaling ship was fine, sailed away. Don't see your point. You simply trust the whalers more?

of course the whaling ship was fine, but the sea shepheards cost them millions by chasing their boats accross the ocean. not that he trusts the whalers (although i presume he trusts them less), more that in the toss up between those 2 options it seems clear that it is probably the second option

  • of course the whaling ship was fine, but the sea shepheards cost them millions by chasing their boats accross the ocean.

If anything, makes it more likely that the whalers meant to take them out.

  • I haven't been able to find the relevant references through google due to the monumental amount of ady gill guff currently chaffing the web but i'm pretty sure that sea shepard and specifically watson have a record of failing to assist sailors in danger. Which makes them seafaring cunts of the highest order.

have you actually read my posts?

i am in support of sea shepherd.

  • What is the annoying noise in that video? something to scare of whales sonar or something?

  • Are those subwoofers I can see?

  • have you actually read my posts?

That is weird, completely got what you said the wrong way. Thought it was weird at the time. Soz. I'm getting confused in my 24 years

  • Fight! Fight! FIGHT!

International Sea Regs state that if you are equipped to handle a mayday call then you must attend. If they have been previously close to a vessel calling mayday but not attended I'm guessing they had a good reason. Doing all this anti-whaling shit and then not being a good sailor is shooting yourself in the foot.

I've been on a power yacht where we've been closest to a mayday but there was no point in us attending because there was a Customs boat in the area. We would have been there quicker but the Customs boat advised that they were better equipped to attend, and they would only take about 25 mins longer to get there than we would. So we carried on. Technically, we did not attend a mayday despite being closest available vessel.
