I had no idea that she had written for Punisher, but then I can't find her name in any credits for it either. Weird.

Agent X I think had a guest appearance from The Punisher that she was the author
But she did a lot of Deadpool.
To be fair, seems very niche and a mean way to beat down on someone.

I dunno, I just never, ever, remember seeing Punisher smile in the comic.
edit: I mean the bloke is a condescending dick to her, but he really does have a point.

She didn't, exactly, @ChainBreaker has the details right. She has been a close colleague of those who do, writing alongside them on related characters with overlapping stories.
So "a mean way to beat down on someone" is wrong. @ChainBreaker, even if you just read the bit of the thread that's pictured above, the guy lecturing her about the Punisher's back story clearly doesn't know it very well or he'd know who she is. He was given the rope to hang himself but also the space to think, do a quick check and not make himself look like a dick.
You both also seem to be missing the point she was making, which was a dig at the dumb shit bros like him have been saying about Brie Larson and Captain Marvel. It's a joke.

I’m not aware of this stuff. Just looked at it in isolation, which is a comic book writer expressing an opinion that she wished Punisher smiled more and somebody pointing out that he never smiles in the comics and that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about in a condescending way.
-
• #24732
Sadly, this is the bread and butter of the comic community. Fans bickering over what is authentic and being dicks to each other about it.
-
• #24733
Have you ever even been to the bike porn thread?

Life is too short for that.

This... Out of context is out of context.

he should be pulling her up on her collection of 'graphic novels' in lieu of bagged trades.
fucking casuals.
-
• #24737
I'm not super aware of the context, I know punisher is grumpy, although I think I've seen his bum on TV. It's pretty obvious from the get go that the post is an ironic take on asking women to smile or show some skin though, related to captain marvel or not. Punisher may have been chosen as it's an easy win for a collaborator/author when the inevitable point misser shows up, but the point still stands.

I think it would be nice if we all smiled more :)
-
• #24739
Good point. That went entirely over my head. Although not sure it was an effective way for her to make the point.

So much this.
She was also one of the key people in the 'women in refrigerators' movement.
This shouldn't make her untouchable but that thread is a classic example of mansplaining comics to girls and neckbeards thinking any girl who shows interest in comics or games is just pretending because they're attention seeking and want to the "cool nerdy girl" with adoring fans.
-
• #24746
Or perhaps might be an example of that but might also be one comic nerd being a dick towards to another one and nothing to do with gender?
-
• #24747
Surely it's possible to be a condescending twat to a woman without it being anything to do with the fact she is a woman? I really don't intend to be contrary on this.
I see horrendous mansplaining and the stuff @NurseHolliday describes all the time with female football fans I know so I know it does happen. I also know that sometimes, people assume a greater knowledge of something and act like a dick because they are dicks, not because of the gender of the other person. It happens to me as a male football fan now and again too.
-
• #24748
I mean, totally could be. I have had only negative experiences with all but a handful of comic book nerds and I'm a man so it's definitely not 100% a gender thing. However, my personal experience of too much time spent in comic book shops and online tells me that there's definitely an unnecessary expectation of intimate knowledge of all character's backstories thrust upon female comic book fans.

I guess what I'm trying to say is arrogant twats are going to arrogant twat. And only some of those arrogant twats are sexist or misogynistic.

Agreed. There were certainly a few in that original thread who met all that criteria though.
The guy who was being particularly dickish actually apologised after. Although I think he kind of missed the mark and didn’t really apologise for the part that was bad.

Happy ending? 💘
Haha even better. Hadn’t spotted that
