Re Anthony's crash vid - am I right in thinking he anchored on his front brake and the front wheel buckles under the pressure, hence the spectacular flip? It looks like the bar / stick thing flips up and goes through the rear wheel.
Glad he seemed not too badly damaged, bike on the other hand?
-
• #21667
No, he didn't touch the brake, he hits some debris in the road that flips up and catches between the wheel and the forks. This flips him forward and, now devoid of rider the bike goes upwards, assisted in part by Antony still holding on for a bit. The bike actually keeps moving forward but then much slower than the following riders so looks like going backwards. A bit of parachute effect.

On my ipad, when I hit pause, his front wheel is well and truly over the debris and the long object appears to be behind the pedals and the front wheel is already collapsing.
It doesn't make any difference to the outcome, it happened to me once (panic braking and flipping).
Just curious to know if it's worth having a bulletproof wheel instead of radial.Edit: you're right I've just watched on my laptop, impressive the forks didn't fold.

Anthony doesn't even attempt to hop that strip of metal, the trouser

Not really no. A bulletproof wheel is a bit of a misconception and would be counterproductive if you're wanting to train at speed. The risk of failure like this is relatively low and there would be far greater ones you should look at mitigating first if you're that risk averse.
Actually looking at a frame by frame of it, the wheel only deforms a bit when he's right on top of it. Might even have survived that part of the crash.

The guy behind him...like a boss. Some quick reactions there.

Yep some serious epic win bike skills there

Kudos to the camera rider for calling out the debris in the road, and for leading the group in the gutter.
Win bike skills all round.

presumably sprots journalist and utter galactit Peter Howard will loose his job for this astounding display of dip-shittery.
It's obviously a stressful time of year for Santa, his kids should be aware of that really.
