Greenhell-It is the friction, generated by load and resistance, that causes the surface wear. Which are functions of what is being said.
Wonder if/how the forth rule has changed with tyre and road surface technology

A few companies are limiting speeds of articulated lorried to 50mph for fuel savings

From the same people that brought you " if you were in a free-falling lift and you jumped in the air the second before it hit the ground you'd be fine, lol "
it's toss.

In general, slower speeds and stop conditions allow a particular load to be applied to a given pavement area for a longer period of time resulting in greater damage
Although there's nothing empirical to back this up.

^ I've been browsing some super exciting websites.
Dynamic Shear Rheometers, anyone?

Works in cartoons, so must be real.

when we compare a 15 MPH bicycle against a 60 MPH Prius, that 4X speed difference means a 4X difference in road damage
I like this. It means I can hold (4 x cyclist) in similar contempt to (1 x prius twat)
Of course, neither has any right to use our thoroughfares because they don't pay road tax.

Exactly. The only car that I've ever owned (as in the V5 was in my name) I didn't pay road tax either ('72 Triumph Spitfire).
I certainly paid it for my motorbikes, which is why I rode them like a twat.

So apparently German company Schaeffler developed an automatic shifting device for e-bikes by the name of... FAG-Velomatic.

motorbikes
motorbikes do no damage at all to asphalt because they travel faster than the speed of sound.

@sausagefingers I hope there is a note about harley owners with extra loud exhaust pipes, I'm 92% factually 100% certain the loud noise will damage the road surface.

Motorbikes or bicycles don't damage roads because neither have power steering.

Don't forget lower/higher tyre pressures.

I think the rise of the electric car is generally a good thing, but I do fear the moment every fucker in London realises they can drive a hummer through the city in rush hour for free as long as it's battery powered.

They printed the same article a year ago. It's recycled bollocks.
Changing the HGV speed limit will make very little difference. They usually only drive at forty because they can't drive any quicker. Raising the limit will make no difference really. The general public seem to have lost the ability to overtake anyway so allowing quicker trucks may make journeys quicker for everyone. We're all doomed whichever way you look at it.......
