Not really, they're both of the same Genus; *Pan. *They're just differnt species of chimpanzee, Bonobo's being *Pan paniscus *and the common chimpanzee being Pan troglodytes. Whilst you can correctly refer to both as 'chimps' its just more common for that to refer to the common chimpanzee.

Also it's not a Bonobo, they have longer limbs and dark faces, it's meant to be a juvenile common chimp.
Note the difference in skin tone between the Bonobo's in the top picture and the common chimps in the bottom (both groups are juvenile; they tend to have paler faces than the adults) :

i think we can assume that it WAS a bonobo / chimp / whatever, but is unlikely to still be one. It might be a very natty little cap...
