abdou's crash is worse i reckon. occurred at much higher speed, in a bunch sprint. jalabert had a nasty one in the 90s when he hit a gendarme at high speed, who was taking a picture at the time. i think.

30kph maybe...

that footage is slowed down!! he was accelerating to get back into pack, hence head down.

Abu's is worse, dognad. not least cos he takes out lots of other riders.
" Abu, you bastard, if you've scratched my frame you're paying for it"

Indeed, also the fact that it took place on the Champs-Elysees.
Don't forget, Ja-Ja's was quite spectacular too. Do I need to post a link? Just remember the one with the bloke on a bike and the copper taking a photo, then you'll remember which one it was.

It's the first one in Dogs vid, although better on Youtube as you get to see him with his face smashed up!

Sunday morning jonny.
-
• #42
Yeah, has someone PM'ed VB to get the thread title changed?
I will probably come for a spin but need to watch my knees: my commute in yesterday morning, after 60 miles on Sunday, was agony. I think I need to see the cyclefit boys or a physio.

Sunday morning? Yeah I fancy this if I can get out of bed

That was a truly horrible crash - as I remember it, the finish was slightly downhill, so they might have been going 70 km/h, maybe even 75 km/h.
-
• #47
You remember correctly I think Bill, as it was definitely slightly downhill. Robert Millar described the aftermath of one crash, and I think it was that one, by saying that it looked like those who'd crashed had fallen out of an aeroplane.
-
• #48
which reminds me, excellent robert millar doc from the 80s on you tube in 9 parts.
ignore theme music, focus on allan peiper and others, millar ascending as fast as most descend.
look out for the bit 4 minutes in.

Broadway market, WTF, I know Borough market, is this some form of subterfuge?
-

dogs that video was amazing, love that over head shot where the peloton splits like a group of starlings and what the fuck was that about the team car driver trying to run over the 'downed' riders legs?
the more i look at that, that safety barrier and cushion thing are sticking out a bit more than the others.
still not as bad as the gomez crash in the tour of flanders this year :O
