Bad rule.
What about girls you totally fall in love with? You never fear to lose them?
disposable women ;-) ...
Before I get lynched, I am only kidding.

my mercian tt is dented, apparently there is fk all you can do short of replacing the tube.
i dont see why it cant be done tbh, it just needs some kind of cylinder expanding wedge inside, connected to a rod which can be accessed by the head tube/seat tube. should be possible.
I heard somewhere that you can drill a small hole, and scew something into it that'll allow you to pull the dent out of the tube?? Don't know anyone thats had it done though.

the metal stretches forms. you just have a hole and most likely a tear but it wouldn't come out flat. You would be better filling it
-
• #105
Yeah, agreed.
-
• #106
expanding foam will just fill down the tube, you'd need to fill the entire tube with it before you might make a difference... which you wouldn't...

Could be worse:
Anyone have any thoughts on safety of bending it back?
(it's 30 year old 501) -

at least you didnt have teenslain do a 'gnarly barspin' and smash your tt
Lies... That ding was already there... Skoota went to drama school, he's very convincing... :p
Ha!
Sorry for you loss.

It is a steel mountain bike frame, i would ask upon my normal MTB forum, but the person offering it is from there
Thanks Jon

I got my first dent on my top tube today.
I was unlocking the bike from a rack - and forgot it wasn't balanced properly.
It collapsed onto the adjacent rack.gutted, because I can only blame myself.

I feel your pain and you probably don't want to hear this..but...
If you really, really must lock your bike in public, you have to expect that one day, statistically speaking, you'll come out to find it dented, knackered or not there any more. I have a cheap but perfectly good bike reserved for this purpose. Save your decent bikes for good long rides when you can enjoy them.
Sorry for your loss though, sucks when it happens...
I really really don't want to hear that my beloved bikes will one day get molested by scrotes. :-(
Sorry to hear about the OP's frame dent.
It's not happened to me yet. In fact, none of my bikes I've used in London have ever been touched, to my knowledge. But then, they are massive, so big man's frame = big man comin to gitcha if you fuck around with it. Plus I tend to "personalise" them a lot - stickers rather than immaculate paint job which devalue the frame, weird choices of bits, etc. Makes them easier to spot and harder to get shot of etc.
Oh yes, and my biggest advantage over the OP is my bikes are always shit. Sorry to hear your nice bike got bruised.
If it's any consolation, does it ride as sweet still? If so, it's now that much less stealable but just as rideable as it ever was.

Bad analogy.
Bikes don't throw themselves at your feet in a desperate bid to get you to ride them.

Nor should you have to lock your girl to a pole to prevent losing her!

I read on another forum about people making dents smaller by putting bags of frozen peas over it
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=64452&highlight=dent
could be bollocks though, never tried it

haha i love it
"*Holey Shmoley! Did a search on Paintless dent removal and found loads of u-tube stuff showing how to remove dents from car bodywork using dry ice, popcorn, and/or a variety of tools
Inspired by this lunacy I have just spent 10 minutes massaging a packet of Birds Eye Succulent Petits Pois around my top tube
.....and guess what - its working This is a photo of a much reduced dent.....metal contracting due to cold etc. Its better by about 30% - 40% I'd say *"
