British & handmade for that sort of cash: Bob Jackson, Steve Goff, possibly Lee Cooper.

Good suggestions, but there may be some others you've missed...
I wonder if it would be worth someone putting together a list of British frame manufacturers that one could search through?
-
• #204
Why, that would be a most useful thing.

Thank you kindly for the responses. I did UTFS before posting and have been making SLOW work of the list. I was hoping someone might say "I know exactly what you're after, try......". If any such telepathic indivuals are on the forum, please step forward.
In the meantime I shall continue to bother London frame builders one by one.

Don't worry, the reason I replied in the first place was because the main list doesn't note costs for all the different builders, just some. If you didn't know much about who they were you might not have a clue who was a £1000+ custom type builder and who was an old-school guy still knocking out straightforward affordable racing frames the way he did in the 80s.
It's still worth making enquiries with more of them, but since they usually tend to have terrible websites and handle their own admin, it could take a while, as you imply.

Precisely my problem.
I was also hoping for a quick fix. It's an insurance replacement. Was panicking about getting back on the road but will get a 75mm caliper for my shed bike and take the time to research a proper custom. Liking the look of the 14 Bike Truman but was a bit worried when I saw the short warranty. -

For a quick fix I don't reckon you'll get a custom frame in time. Steve Geoff is pretty cheap, but I doubt he'll be that quick. johnQdarwindonor had one build recently:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread109319.html...maybe ask him what the lead time was.
OTP you could have a look at Person. I don't know where you're based, but they're sort of in London and have some really nice frames at the moment.
I'm impressed you're wearing so many frames out. Have you thought of something like a Steamroller? (Which I realise is neither custom nor British)

If a custom builder can produce a frame next month ask yourself 'how'? Is their order book empty? Is there a reason for that? Expect to wait 3 or4 months, or at least a month longer than their promises.....
Steve Goff is old school, his workmanship is impeccable and the frame he built me was spot on ( look up 'shiny bits' in CP). There was plenty of change from £ 500. You won't be queueiung behind the misguided merchant bankers either.....

That's a nice bike, Colin. Was leaning towards a slave bike but my mind has been opened after joyfully gliding around London and Bristol on Ergolite's Reynolds 531 Unfinished Project.
Awaiting response from Mr Cooper. Oaks turned out to be a bit steep for my budget at £1300 starting price
Hugo, my mate has a Steamroller but I'm just not convinced by the rake on the fork. Despite my recent enlightenment I think I'm still gonna come down on the side of a straight one.

Hi all - new Australian member here.
I came into possession of this (british made) frame when my brother moved interstate. I have been trying to identify the frame for a long time, but haven't been able to do so. I was directed here from Reddit - hopefully someone can help me out!
Thank you in advance :)

Hillary Stone is an encyclopedia of British classic cycles. He's actually a member of this forum. He also has his own website.
http://www.classicrendezvous.com/British_isles/British.htm
The second link is included as it might be helpful.
You can message Hillary directly on this forum, but he can take quite some time to reply.
I hope you find the answer.

Sad news. But he's had a great innings, so he's due some rest.

Anyone have and suggestions for the best (read cheapest) place to get some fork legs replaced... Crown and steerer are fine but legs bent a treat...
Cheers! -
• #216
prolly easier and deffo quicker to just buy new 1" steel forks from teh bay, unless the crown has special stamping to match the frame
-
• #217
Yep it does. Flat crown Colners.

We're looking for UK based companies who manufacture non standard cycles especially side by side cycles for a number of projects we (cycle training UK) are planning next spring. Because of the euro exchange rate these are so expensive now to import.
Any suggestions about who would be worth approaching?

You could ask Peter Eland, or Howard Yeomans, who's taken over from him, of VeloVision magazine. Between them, they'll know every single manufacturer, although I think their main contacts are in Europe.
Steve Geoff.
