• i think the oxford grass polo folk play on those archie w's. i think they're speedways.

  • Oakenden play on those bikes. Toe overlap is massive!

  • Yep they're speedway bikes. I was gonna get one off eBay last year. Was a Trac-Star and went for £50! Youngs cycles make the best ones but they're really hard to find.
    Check Youngs' Oval Master...

  • Actually a few of the Oakenden Peddlers are featured on the banner of that Wilkenson website.

Thought that would be the case but switch the 175mm for 160-165's and I think it could work. I heard Matt's bought one for Vic...

  • Check the speedway bikes here:
    http://www.geocities.com/ovalking/Pits.html

Not sure how suitable for polo they'd be though...

  • Cheap bikes for polo:

26in wheels. Nice and tight for polo turns. £199 complete.

I don't know why they haven't put the disks on both sides of the wheel though ...

  • Does anyone know who the player is in IMG_5080.jpg on Flickr - Photo Sharing! or where i can get one of those lay-back seat posts? I've checked the archie wilkinson site but can't see it.

  • roxy or mike will know.

  • Ray; any chance you could e-mail me that one (of me)? Vanity, I know.
On the subject: thanks to polo people at Downham for letting me work. The negs look good, I'm excited, hope to do some mini-prints to show you all what I am up to.
very keen to do South polo as well; anyone involved want to be my contact?

  • Will, just remembered that I've got a proper neg scanner somewhere. I'm sure you've got your own kit, but let me know if you want to borrow it.

just come down on wednesday, we're all friendly (and you've probably met the majority of people that will turn up anyway)

  • Nice photos Ray. Great to document these great dayz. ;-)

Is it an illuminated court? Light enough for flash-free photos?

  • it's lit pretty brightly, if it's enough for flash free photo's i don't know. Skoota will probably have a good idea, try pm'ing him

  • I'll try and get along anyway just to see. cheers

  • It's not really bright enough for flash free photos, although as always it depends on lenses and film.

You looked like you were using a 50mm 1.8 when I saw you, so to get a decent shutter speed (i.e. 1/50th or higher) I think that you'd probably need 800 ISO minimum. This is from memory BTW, so don't take it as gospel.

Anybody going to the EHBPC meeting tonight get free from work sooner than 8pm and fancy a pint somewhere? (possibly at the Pitfield St location).
