Bitter middle aged men who wear skin-tight lycra, have a really expensive road-bike, and hate everyone else on the road, including other cyclists. Many have massive inferiority complexes, probably because they're not as fast as some other roadie they know, and it kills them inside. Might to use the word 'bling' and 'pimp' a lot, and has recently bought a 'fixie' (after reading various sunday publications) in a vain effort to be 'down with the kids'.
Likely to fly off the handle at any vehicle who makes a slight error on the road.
Have we met? ;)

I've got a road bike, and enjoy geared wanders at the weekends. However, exams have been getting in the way and it hasn't been ridden that much recently.

I have a road bike. I like long rides, but don't have lycra, and have been riding for a while.
Never considered myself a roadie- as cycling was usually fitness training for other things. -

in fact I remember the first day I ever rode my geared bike.
I had look clipless pedals and came up to some traffic lights after a test spin in RP, and unclipped gracefully, then bailed terrifically in front of a line of cars.
Changed my shoes after that to some more useful ones. -

I wouldn't consider myself a roadie - maybe a roadie aspirant. Been too busy with DIY etc. to do much more than my commute for the last few weeks.
However, I consider riding a hobby, unnecessary rides a necessity, see the need for lycra and have a (low end) carbon bling bling geared bike that is used at weekends only.
I'll work on the chip on the shoulder.
And Dale, the Moro pumpkin, feta & oregano Fetayer are the best pasties I've ever tasted (and made myself for that matter).

actually thinking about it, I have lots of lycra:
Rowing all in one, technical top etc.
Rugby undershorts, underarmour stuff.
Skiing long johns and top.
But nothing bike related.Edit- but thats going to change- probably some sort of tri suit as a next purchase....

Ended up with DIY commitments - with the Mrs working the BH, Monday was my riding day. Unfortunately the weather meant that I did more DIY instead. In a couple of weeks it'll all be a lot easier. -

Well, I'm flattered (if that's the right word), but due to my short attention span, I've only ever dabbled in the whole gamut of cycling disciplines or personae: roadie, tourer, audaxer, trackie, grimpeur, rouleur, puncheur, souplesseur, roller racer, mtber, sser, fixed off-roader, commuter, er... fakenger.
The attention span has also meant that short hills, rollers, and short track events are my favourites, but if I had to pick one identity, it'll always be grimpeur (which you may contend is a sub-division of roadie anyway)...

Waiting for bike 2 work or similar to get sorted to get one of these "gearie wheel" bikes I've been hearing about. And riding to Brighton on Saturday morning for my first 100k.

You must have caught me on CCTV, except that I'm old aged.
streetie? don't bother with purposeless rides, does that exclude me?
