The cables look more untidy on the rim brake version imo. Disc but build up yourself.

• #99530
Second this.

• #99531
If he build it up himself, it'll no longer be a beater.
-
• #99532
Exactly, we get a more interesting project thread to read

Well hopefully Genesis or Evans Cycles will be at the London Bike Show this weekend and I'll have a browse about the cable details.

Got to have some bling...

and carry 5 locks...

Yeah people have been saying to go disc, but how easy is it to convert it to fixed?

Where does one get one of those or is there a wheelset ready off the shelf?
-
• #99540
What? are you saying you don't want to build that on a deep carbon rims?
Think about it, no braking surface needed...
-
• #99541
Not sure, they were brought up yesterday somewhere on here, but I can't find it anymore. I guess any Surly dealer would be able to order them.
-
• #99542
Definitely a strong look in my books, but when I ask someone to build me a wheelset it almost took 4 months...Plus 32 holes?
-
• #99543
Is there a cheap carbon disc fork with mudguard mounts?

• #99544
new stem day!

• #99545
Mad déjà vu.
Hubjub sell them as do triton.
Get the 853, go disc fixed and put enve on. Not just because I want to see it either ;)
-
• #99546
Can get 36 if you want.
Build the surly hubs to archetypes and you'll have a moderately hipster wheelset.
-
• #99547
get someone different to build them this time then.
-
• #99548
True dat,
Though this build is becoming more bling than a beater now...
-
• #99549
Archetype, strong, light and wide.

After leaving the bike to dry for a day, I took it apart with difficulty and sanded the frame down. I also used a file and bench grinder to remove extra bits and braze ons for derailleurs, mudguards, pump holder etc. Over 12 bits needed filing off
I then applied a couple of thin coats of primer, filled all 16 holes and dents with a filler mixture, leaving the residue to dry till Monday so I can sand it down and apply a last coat of primer before the paint comes on.
FORUM ASSEMBLE!!!
After getting my roadie bike damage recently (and spending so much dollars on keep it clean and fresh) I am finally going to get a run around fixie beater for London Town!
I am considering to go via the ride to work scheme and had a few discussion with a few forum members in regards to what to get. The options are:
My thoughts are that without too much fuss I can get the whole bikes and with the rest of the money get some Enve forks as I don't really like the looks of the steel forks in my book (this can be done for both the normal day one and day one disc). I'm more siding on the normal Day One compare to the disc, mainly because I know nothing about disc brakes and I'm not too keen on the untidy cables that runs along the downtube or the forks. (form over function in my books, that's how us architects thinks unfortunately)
Or to make it more personal and probably a lot more work is gather the parts and build the new girl from scratch.
Thoughts, suggestion or the usual banter please?
