  • Got a cheap trusty clincher wheelset for commuting, haven't changed the rear cog though yet, so it's a bit spinny

  • constant uphill

  • Just the angle*

  • @Rodolfo 35mm Schwalbe Kojaks tend to fill up empty spaces quite well

  • That look really fun and fast.

  • thanks ed, it is!

it's a converted 1970s Batavus Criterium, bit lazy-angled but if you lean into it properly it has no problems cornering like you want it to. much fun on gravel country/wood lanes when it's dry too.

a real pleasure to see those tyres fit, and finding the right brake calipers that cover the drop but do not look too long

  • went with the earlier mentioned schwalbe cx pro in in 622-30. as said, its a trackframe with a prospected normal-ish rake and a-c fork in that guise so i reckon'd ild best be a bit conservative with tyresize. and the idea is to have the possibility to plow through snow and mud. hell, maybe there'll even be space for mtb mudguard things which don't really work.

the wheels aren't even built and its still august. im not even yet in berlin, so this is all a bit speculation.

  • plus, caliper brakes.

  • Finally finished the Straggler.

  • Looks good! Front mudguard seems to have decent coverage, what size tyres are you running?

  • Schwalbe Durano 28s, fashionably fitted to a 25mm rim :-)

  • Reckon you could get anything bigger under PDW guards?

  • I reckon they'd be fine with 32mm, depending on the frame clearance.

  • Cheers. Might end up getting the 50mm GB ones and taking a Dremel to them if they don't quite fit the Cross Check...

Hoping I can just about squeeze 38c + mudguards in there...

  • really like this!
shorter stem and lowered levers? x

  • That bike gives me happy tears

  • cheers.
no, it's perfect for the guy I built it for and the hoods are in the best position for comfy riding...

  • haha! better get a box of tissues then, here's some more pics ;-) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/55oecdnpb96tjjt/AAB0EW9KD1oB1QOmDgbZ1yHRa

  • Making me cry ain't cheap - tell me the name of both the brakes and the fork - and the amount of clearance front and back with the Kojaks.

  • as you command, sir (twice even... and still without please or question mark ;-))

fork is original Batavus. rear clearance about 4-5mm on either side. had to file out the steerer tube which was sticking through the fork crown a bit though.

it was hard to part with this one, will sure build another like it.

  • No question marks because I didn't ask you a question, I commanded an answer. Thanks for your thorough reply, I fucking envy that bike.

  • file out the steerer tube

This was an unknown trick for me to accomodate larger tyres - duly noted!

  • Yesterday I almost wheelied back over when accelerating out of the slightly uphill bumbs on my fixedgear32x15MTBwannabe99cmwheelbasething - my strength after 2000km in one month is immense.

  • do these

require special campagnolo brake cables? or special width for Delta 5th Generation?
