  • full Galli, headset shifter and hub less

Nice build.....I have the large flange Galli hubs, in gold, on my hetchins....and the same gold brakes.

  • ^photos ?

  • His that rossin in nemo ? waww

  • Seems to be a bit of a tanwall trend at the moment.

TIL: veloflexes are the fucking WORST tyres to fit.

  • I don't mean side to side I don't think, I mean that the saddle can still be rotated by hand. I think I managed to scratch the seatpost in doing so, so it isn't easy, but I don't think it's ridable without solving it first.

    Doesn't sound ridable

I brought some fibre paste and my torque wrench to the track and tried again tonight. It felt alright at first but then at the end of my first lap racing it slipped down. Luckily, I had managed to leave the old seatpost at the other end of London so I couldn't race any more.

The carbon post just isn't going to work, although the 29.4mm post fit fine without overtightening, I think the clamp area has flared out a little through the previous owner using strange shims. I'd like an inline post to bring the reach down so I still don't really want to use the SystemEx post I bought as a stopgap. Should I:

a.) Buy an £8 shim and use an existing post
    b.) Buy a c.£20 BBB Skyscraper seatpost
    c.) Buy a £54 Thomson Elite seatpost
    d.) ?

  • Over torque with the Easton post

  • What could possibly go wrong?

Even at the correct torque (or 8Nm, which technically might be over-torquing) it is leaving slight marks on the post but still slipping.

  • veloflexes are the fucking WORST tyres to fit.

I've always found them really easy, you must be doing it wrong :-)

  • ^^
That sounds like it only make contact at the clamp area, but not below it. I mean rather than flared, the about opposite. Are you sure it's the right size post? It might also be just slightly under size from wear.

  • The carbon post is brand new, as was the alloy post which fit.

I think you're right about the clamp area actually, maybe I do mean pinched rather than flared, although it doesn't look misshapen from the bolt ears.

I also need a new bolt for it actually, any recommendations? The current one is Miche, hence needing a new one. It has rounded off and now spends its time nibbling bib shorts.

Yeah, all open tubulars are a doddle to fit. :)

  • No side shot?

  • :P

  • Wahey!

  • Yeah, all open tubulars are a doddle to fit. :)

The tyres themselves are fine. It's getting the tube in without it kinking which really sucks. Am I just doing something wrong? Talc helped a bit.

The master 22 I had a while back were dead easy, so it's probably just a new tyre thing.

  • ^^^Nice, but white bartape >.<

    And needs bling wheels

  • ...

  • Flipping eck, moving house?!

I quite like the white bits. I've no idea how easy it is to keep that Lizard stuff white; FWIW something vinyl-y like Fizik Microtex or cheapo Bike Ribbon stays very clean with a bit of soap and water. It's less cushioned but I have a couple of layers of hockey tape under Bike Ribbon and that does me fine.

  • Nah, too much setback.

  • just need a brake set

... To complete all the mtb groups that campy did? Nice collection!

Open Pro Ceramics are pretty blingin'. Don't have a spare grand to drop on some 404 Firecrests unfortunately. Wouldn't mind some Pacenti SL23's on Goldtec road hubs.

Cheers Phil. My current black gloves don't hold their colour too well, so going to get some with white / neutral leather palms. We'll see how the Lizard Skins stuff fares. Had Fizik Microtex on other bikes, and wanted to try something different.

    Nah, too much setback.

Mine? Just the standard 25mm, not the more extreme 32. Maybe looks like more because the top of the 27.2 post is quite large, and the shape of the saddle. Fits nice. Thought I'd try that rather than a 130 stem.

White tape (Euro/Pro/all black would be dull), set back (Pro/correct fit), and traditional drops (classic and pretty) FTW. Might lower the post a touch. Apart from that, happy happy.
