Huge thanks to Thrust for his Mavic 632 Starfish, and to umop3pisdn for the awkward ISO Token BB they're fitted to.

Looks good!

Cheers, I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. But now it's got the 305 headset, and the starfish, I might be at the top of a slippery slope trying to track down more Mavic bits...

Finding a chainring that doesn't look crap with those cranks is hard, and your combination shouldn't work but I really like it.
Tout Mavic could be nice, but it's not necessary - not that that really matters to us lot (see posts above about certain bottle cages being too heavy).

Don't be tempted, it will never be as good (or as tout Mavic) as Gaston's:

Thanks - I was unsure about the spider finishing in the chainring cutout at first too, but it's grown on me really quickly.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about that Gaston build. Decision made. Can't keep up; won't bother trying!

lop pair of open pros, old sora 9sp RD, pedals off, crank bros on (only thing spare at mo) and a bit of a clean. Anyone know anything abt these GT Force chromo's? Assume late 90s early 2000 cos Shimano rsx bits.
Stem is going as are drops, going for mtb trigger shifters and risers but will they work with current stock brakes (shimano 300 ex), and sora rd? Have spare xt rd if needs be.

You need 'Flat Bar' brake levers, not MTB V-Brake levers. Sora and Tiagra grades available. There are Flat Bar gear levers (and even STI combined units) too, but 9-speed Shimano will happily mix/match between MTB and Road. I'd be inclined to bin the front dérailleur and run 1×9 with the XT RD and matching shift lever. HG50 cassette has loads of options, from 14-25 rat racer to 11-32 for hauling a full load of shopping.

I need to replace the cartridge bearings in my Mavic SE Helium wheels, the parts number is ntn 690 ilu, anyone know where I can buy them or equivalents?
-
• #95017
I think 6903 bearings for the front, and 1 off 6903 + 1-2 off 608 for the rear
http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Bearings-Cycle+Bearings/c3_5227/index.html for Enduro branded ones, at about £10/£5 so around £40 total.
Mavic ones from Evans:

Do exactly as Tester says, get some nice wide risers and put a rack on the front. Absolutely ideal.

I found this
http://www.artscyclery.com/descpage-MVFHB24126.html
so just bought a pair of 601s. I'll buy a pair of 603s too and see which fit. Luckily it is just the front ones that need replacing at the moment. -
• #95020
The word 'Helium' doesn't occur on that page, pretty sure it's 6903 for the front Helium.

Tester, Merch - ta very much. Will be back I'm sure....

Picked this up yesterday:
I am VERY exite.
Has some nice kit on it:
And some lovely detail:
Doesn't really require that much. I will probably lose the novelty wheelset, swap that saddle and change the bar tape, then it should be good to go.

good idea
