  • Real classy! Would some Campag aero levers suit it better? Like these...

Problem I find with old levers is that it have a very long reach in the drop with compact drop compare to modern levers.

  • I have those levers on my bob just now, and like you TM, they seem to need to be really high up to be comfy

  • Crap, I either didn't get that shim or I seem to have lost it! I'll need to see if there's a way I can get hold of it by itself. The non-flat hood is bothering me a little. Not that I'm trying to get rid of them, but does anyone have any better suggestions lever wise (if not those old-school Campag aeros)?

Saddle is exactly 77.5 cm from bottom bracket as per my bike fit, but I'll play around with the height.

That is pretty fucking awesome, especially the direct-mount centerpull.

RE levers; you're missing the shim for compact drop for that brake levers to give it a flatter hood.

  • Talk to the shop you bought it from and let them get the shim for you.

  • As for levers, IRD is going to release a levers that's apparently closer to the Campagnolo design than the Tektro/Cane Creek one, the only pic I can find is the drillium ZST;

The best singlespeed levers I've ever ridden with is the Campagnolo Record one that cost a bomb, however no reason why you couldn't get a broken Centaur (silver) and gut out the shifts out of it.

  • ^ Those look exactly the same shape as the cane creeks.

  • Those look interesting. The old Cane Creek one, that Condor still do an own-brand version of, is a nice shape. The newer Cane Creek one is massive though, not a big fan of those.

The crabon Record ones look beautiful, I've not used them. I like the Shimano ones personally, R600 on the Bob, 7402 on the Feather. The hoods have some hook to them though, not for everyone.

The SRAM ones have that perfectly flat transition but I hated them when I tried them. Didn't find them at all comfortable and they're hollow and flexy.

  • scr-5 and scr-5c are the nice, campag style short-reach levers from cane creek. There are lots still around.

  • What I liked about the carbon Record is that you can comfortably wrap your hand round it due to the lack of shifter, it's a lots skinner than the SRAM one which felt massive.

The SCR-5 hood is massive compare to the Record, but have excellent modulation as it doesn't flex (especially with disc brakes) compare to the SRAM one.

  • There are some used Record levers on ebay right now...

  • ^^^ sorry, you're right, CC still do those. I was thinking of the Tektros that they're based on, the R200, which I went looking for and couldn't seem to find (as I didn't want the CC patterned hoods). The RL340 are the ones they do now, which are rather large. Very solid though.

  • Project Black Metal Vigo is coming along. Got the chainring bolts today so I could actually attach the chainring and got the chain a couple of days ago.
I'm not happy with the chain because I didn't realise the galvanized coating would make it look like it's painted silver. I'm going to buy a silver KMC Devil when they come back in stock. Also the cranks required a bit of filing on the top edges of the spider arms and the inside of the crank arm to fit the chainring over the top and I don't particularly like it, so I want to swap it for some Sram Red ones as they should fit without issue, but can't find any second hand in 165.
The bartape is getting replaced as soon as the new stuff turns up in the post and there's a Tester Topcap™ to come as well so I'll chop the steerer when that turns up.
Otherwise, it's in full working condition and is surprisingly light, 7.6kg according to my bathroom scales.
Also the spray job is proper shoddy and is scratching off at the slightest touch despite the coats of lacquer.

  • Put a red chain on it, I dare you.

  • Apart from the chain, that's really rather spiffing.

    On an unrelated note.
Would I get away with the regular SKS raceblades on this (they are 25c tyres) or should I get the XL - something I'd like to avoid to keep clunkiness to a minimum.

  • can someone recommend a weight weenie but safe, black finishing kit for a 1" threaded frameset with 27.2 seatpost ?

  • modern 3t? with ahead adapter

  • Or Easton EC90/KCNC/Enve?

  • Ritchey?

  • Black and red? Chain? Hmmm...

Not one of my better calls.

  • Loving the all black romin henry

  • It's sweet isn't it. I want to replace my other 2 Romin's with them but I can't justify the expense purely for aesthetics.

Do you want a quill stem? Syntace perhaps?

Even if you were going to use a converter I'd still suggest Syntace. Light, but not dangerously light.

  • ^^ shame the rails are still silver.

  • hubjub have some pretty nice stem from Tange, but the finish is a bit ugly;

  • just get a Grammo
