I bought a new fixed frameset recently, a much more practical Pearson Touché to replace my lovely but sadly not so practical J.F.Wilson frameset.

Took me far to long to notice this but...

Where the hell are the rest of the spacers! And how the feck did the previous owner manage to adjust the headset to a good level?

I'm a little out of practice with threadless headsets, but I assume you do need to cover the steerer with stem/spacers to about 3mm above the steerer top right?

Someone has removed the top cap and lost the spacers. If the headset was already compressed properly before the stem was tightened, you could get away with it, since the stem clamps adequately to hold the assembly. It's not recommended though.

Not necessarily 3mm. The top of the spacers/stem need to be higher than the steerer by any distance.

Yeah when I said "about 3mm" I realised that it's just a suitable margin really

I'd never heard of that tubing so gave it a Google and found nemo.

I don't know if 747 nemo was the only type?

I had only heard once of this tubing before, a guy from another forum talked about it but cannot find what he said..
When I googled it, I came up with the same info as you, there's no "official" information about it, only guesses on different forums..

Well the other option was that the fork had been replaced, steerer not cut, and the same spacers used.
But this would mean that the assembly hadn't been compressed at all and you would definitely have noticed it/shouldn't be riding it.

out of curiosity, why not recommended?
its only cosmetical, as once tightened the stem releases the cap from any duty (except holding onto bung lol)

The stem will eventually work is way up, and only 0.5mm of play is enough to seriously damage the headset.

why would a stem work its way up if its tightened properly?

Just had a ride around my st (first time riding it) and the stem isn't tightened to the steerer properly (bars now out of alignment with wheel) so I'm definitely not riding it till I've got some spacers and adjusted it properly.

Anyway I've gone from this frame, and it's ridiculously tight clearances (minus the front lowrider rack as that was a silly idea)

Got some SRAM singlespeed levers to go on it soon,

and not sure whether to get some brown bartape to match the saddle...
And may change the mudguards as they don't fit as nicely under the brake levers, they have some unnecessarily chunky bracket thing

I just discovered a dent on my frame. I can only assume some clumsy fuck has bashed it with their bike when it was locked up. Should I be worried about this?

^^^Don't currently have a hacksaw, may need the steerer etc. I probably will though It has a lot showing as the previous owner was a couple inches taller than me

EDIT: Well I would consider it ruined, I highly doubt you could fill that dent etc

i think that is a bit far. Keep an eye on the dent but i wouldn't stop riding the frame because of it

SKS Longboard would be your idea mudguard if you intend to try a couple of audax on it.

Derp, I thought the second FIRST~ picture was a huge dent on the downtube as well, yeah BONORs probably right tbh

My Vig is dented in the exact same place, the stays must be pretty thin there.

I've just been riding it pretty hard and it seems okay. I think I'll take it in to my LBS tomorrow and see what they say. Pretty bummed out by it.

The first dent always hurts the most.
