The fork isn't drilled for a brake and i wanted to keep the original fork on to. I got the money so i thought why not, probably come in handy in the future anyway.
It ain't to bad, i'm sure new pads will make a big difference.
i have the same clamp ons and it does. the original ones are for show, not for stopping you. get some koolstops and put the lever in the correct position, it'll be 100% better..

^^tom can add to that statement, because the pads i bought were almost as expensive as the brakeset. which was ridiculous anyway.

Can't get my head around this. Looks like it is pushing the outer rather than pulling the inner.
that's exactly what it's doing. you can always wire 'em up backwards

Remove the standard bolts anyway you can, then throw them straight in the bin
Or just buy a Shimano Chainring Peg Spanner?
Never built a bike without one, tbh. Tiny, flat, fits in practically any tool roll.If the shops are closed, use the back of a knife.
Butter knife is safest. -

TruVativ Steel Chainring Bolt Set: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors
That is a good idea!
Even with the right tool, tightening chainring bolts is a pain.

£50 for a front brake (not including the lever) and it has barely any power.
There's also quite a lot of excess cable. If you switched it onto the left side / proper position then you would also be able to reduce the length of the cable housing. Better pads make a difference. If you don't want to spend as much as Swiss stops then fibrax are good and very cheap (although they wear out fast).
As for the tyres don't ultrimos come in 28mm? They would be my first thought especially as you'd hope there would be some on sale somewhere in Europe.

any household trick to keep the chainring bolts from spinning when unscrewed? I think i've used the ones that are too short and I cant grab hold of the two rivets on the back with anything I can think of in my house :(
an old fork - bend the prongs you don't need back and bend those you do need horizontally until they are in the right position

tried that, too flexy^

I am keeping the old one, I love it. Rode it almost every day over winter, and really enjoyed it. It's pretty beat up though, and I don't like the forks, and the 1" steerer means it's hard to find good replacements.
Setting it up for track and keeping it down south meant I didn't have a fixed bike in the house at all.
Track Champ was a bargain, an upgrade, and is slightly shorter in the top tube, which will stop me looking like this (not a T-rex):
Have you considered a bike fit?

Get all your flat-bladed screwdrivers out - one will be the right size...

I am, but the only place you can buy [GB tires] is in America, and there's the shipping, which is why I suggested the alternated that are easier to obtain.
I bought my pair of Cerfs from Alex Singer when I lived in France, might be cheaper than having them shipped from the US.

Good shot, have no idea they have a website, slightly less dodgy than the other French site.
Now can order the 42mm tyres for the g/f.
