  • Brought the frame of one of my steel track bikes back in it's full glory/original condition.
Got old, original decals from the frame builder (wrong colour, glue not working), scanned and traced them, fine tuned the artwork and had full colour stickers printed and cut out.
Applied the new stickers, applied a layer of clear coat and assembled the bike again.

  • So nice! Wouldn't even argue with the saddle.

  • The old Michelin World Tours were cracked and shiny so got some new 27 x 1.25" chinese gumwalls for the Freddie Grubb, in time for 60km with my parents last weekend. Cold weather but lovely ride.

Edit: I'd like to lower the stem a bit, but it's stuck fast and actually quite comfortable for the three or four times a year pootle I use it for. Ditto the steel rims, no point changing really.

  • The Roberts, the Reco both so beautiful!

  • Here is a better shot as requested. This is a mean bike! Should get a black rear wheel, and perhaps some other pedals and saddle. Bought the frame very cheap with fork and seat post, and got the front wheel way too cheap as well. The frame was originally built for the shopkeeper's son, but he never got around to use it.

  • I want to build up a fastish steel road bike. So far, I've looked at All City Mr Pink, All City Macho Man, Surly Pacer and TFG Wide Open.

Can anyone think of any other similar frames? Want to look at as many options as possible. Ideally budget would be around £500 for f+f if purchasing new.

    Did this ever get resolved?

Haven't read the thread for a while and it was interesting reading through the various responses, including the carbon suggestions. From the frames you listed you seem to be after more of an all-rounder / audax style frame. At the moment I can't really think of any obvious carbon option that fall into that category and your price.

Personally, I'd go for the All City Mr Pink, as (1) it seems to be more of a road bike, (2) has practical features and (3) looks good.

  • How flexible is the budget JB?

I quite like the look of this http://www.condorcycles.com/Audax-Commute-Touring/9457-Condor-Fratello-2011/flypage.tpl.html

Loving that, comes in 64cm too :)

  • Hi Hugo,

No didn't get resolved. Leaning towards carbon. I think Fox's carbon audax bike is a good example. Or a CAAD_ or vintage steel. Mr Pink's seem to be a bit expensive for my liking. I know its Zona - but still. Very pricey, and not that nicey.

  • zona ey...

why not get TF to make you a bike in the china factory, zona, full custom, your geo.

  • ^ I am doing that atm

  • That is always an option, but might get too pricey, especially considering the fact that I want to go to Scherrit, too.

Will be seeing what he says before I do anything to be honest.

  • iirc its like £350

  • £235.

  • ^ ?

IMHO, best material for the money is a decent alu frame bicycle with 105+ than a carbon of similar value.

  • slowly getting this built up. Still lacking a hangar for cantis and getting the bb threads cleaned up & bb shell faced

  • ^decals looking pro there. love it.

Not sure if he is talking about custom TFG frame or Scherrit? Because Scherrit is £235.

If he's talking about the bike I don't understand. Surely if they charge £475 for a Wide Open in Zona, they would definitely not charge £350 for a custom geo frame in zona?

  • If you see Scherrit, he'll be able to help you on choosing which bicycle that'll fit you the best.

Precisely the reason I want to go to him before I even think about what I will actually get.

  • its good that you realized that now and not after 5th bike buy!

  • oh wait

  • There were only 2 that didn't fit as well as I'd have liked. To be fair, the Vivalo was a good size, I just didn't realise it at the time as I was used to the slack Leader geo and it felt so 'tracky.' Perfectly willing to admit that the Pan was too small.
