Hi all,
Here are some pics of my Mercian recently (finaly should I say) arrived in London after a month of long waiting for it and trying not to be too impatient, and that I am currently refurbishing. I am keeping it as a touring geared bike. However the rear wheel (27X1-1/4) has actually a flip flop hub, so I can go fixed anytime, FTW!
A good friend spotted this beauty for me on the bay, and his helps was precious to make this happen! Thank you man!
I love the bike, it is a very smooth ride! As soon as everything is sorted (new tyres, new seat post - the original one is a little too short for me - and some details here and there) I will post new pics!
And details of the lug work:
If anybody could give me infos on the model that this might be... Looking at Mercian website and Classic Rendez Vous, I feel that this might be an Olympic, but I am just guessing there...

It's probably a KOM or a professional but Mercian should be able to tell you from the Serial number.
Nice bike,

i'm normally morally opposed to posting my own bikes on the forum. but this one's been up on here in other guises, and i really love how it looks so i thought i'd share. it's a rare early 90s aero-tubed mercian. i've never seen another one like it. took it out for its inaugural ride this afternoon. smooth as.
... but this is also a plea for help. anyone know where i can find fluorescent yellow grip tape? not just yellow (not even the fizik yellow), and not the glow-in-the-dark green cinelli tape, but proper fluoro yellow tape. lemme know.

I am no aerodynamics expert, and maybe neither are Mercian :-) but surely the plate on the rear seat stays is less aerodynamic that normal seat stays?

I think I have some fluro yellow tape that I bought off George, you're welcome to it.

yeah that was my thought, too. but the stays are ridiculously thin, so maybe it's for strength more than aerodynamics? i'm guessing that the seatpost already disrupts the airflow enough to not matter.

Ah, second hand. I see!
