I am intending to build my first single speed. I am figuring that a good place to start is a frame. This is what I am looking at for a starter. All I know is that its a kitching and its cheep.
Any pointers as to the quaility and sutability of this as a frame?
hi tangle, there's a little sticker at the top of the seat tube, any idea what it states?

I'd never run a chain that didn't have a titanium nitride* coating, I don't even want to think about what would happen!
*anyone any idea what titanium nitride is/does?

not for a first build. vertical dropouts - (and 27" rims)?

My RIH. Scored the frame, cranks and a wheel set (different to the wheels seen here) via the forum last December. Super nice ride!
Planned upgrade include new wheels, headset, stem and mirror polishing the cranks.
... and sorting out that seat angle.
what a shame, i was the next in line for that frame and it was to be my track bike this summer. now it's a hipster bike with skull caps, thats too small for the rider -

Whaddaya talking about? It doesn't look like it's got vertical dropouts and show me some one who hasn't used a 27" wheel frame as a conversion! It should be perfect.

it's not clear from the photo, but they could well be angled forward facing drop-outs, would sit about right with that vintage of frame (1970s/80s?)
and there's no problem with 27" wheels

looks like verts to me. And I've done 4 conversions using magic gears without a problem but wouldn't recommend it for a first time conversion.

i know a 45 cm RIH for sale but thats really small

It's a crappy picture. I will suspend judgement for the minute.

basically a higher abrasion resistance, i.e. no chance of rust, go through 1 weeks of salt and you won't even need to give it a good lubing.
oh and it give you an a bonus live when you play Tomb Raider.

cut the axle off, and stick it in a vice then twisty/turny
Don't cut anything. Wrench FTW!
I've removed a few before, to regrease and put back in. As long as it isn't corroded inside, you can run it as is rather than replace it. Or at least until you have to.

I feel your pain. I was next in line for this bad boy. Dark days indeed.
