My parts cupboard is currently a hhsb without a frame, a decent spec road bike without a frame and a hack geared thing without a frame, right down to wheels and pedals. And then some assorted spares around the side. Can't justify more bikes :(

^^ is that the drop down to Ventnor beach?

Shanklin.

The extra weight is trivial, it's only a short section at the head end which is 2.3mm instead of 2mm
According to DT website, (64 spokes, 264 mm):
Alpine III 2.3/1.8/2.0 418g
Competition 2.0/1.8/2.0 382gExtra expense is also trivial, 6p each at Rose
So for an extra 36g and less than £4 for a pair of wheels, you can upgrade from Comps to Alpine III. On that basis, I can't see why anybody would use Comps.
Excellent. Thanks for the info.

^^ happy memories!! when we were kids our dad used to take us on an annual Mayday ride round the IOW
The Ventnor - Shanklin leg was a killer - IIRC there are zigzags up from the beach at Ventnor followed by a long drag up and monster descent back down again - I ran 48x18 fixed back in those days and was pretty much trackstanding coming off that beach! -

Project Porteur Rack v1.0 is coming along nicely, now gotta work out whats the best support system using the 1/2" tube I've got for the job.
Fun times!

Here she is;
with some bullhorns with no drop that should be fine i would of thought, a bit of a aggressive position, but fine over a short distance.

I used to ride pretty long distances on that frame. It was suprisingly comfortable:

Cheers mate, I'm really enjoying this project and am already envisioning v1.1. :P
It's the first fabrication project I'm done in years and forgot what fun it is, although not sure the neighbors feel the same!
I think I'm gonna cut out some of the plate so as to loose weight and to make loads of available bungee cord fixings.
This has really shown me how much I need to start kitting out the garage as a workshop though, so will start ordering bits for that too soon.
I've tried to document everything so other people can have a go to, and/or offer advice or abuse here in the Porteur Rack v1.0 thread.
Matt, got some airwings with condor lever in the cupboard if you're feeling impatient...
