  • wel the stops were £12 and i can return them to wiggle still so its not like its costing me much..hmm

  • switched up grips, saddle, and wheels on my 'about town' bike. will no doubt be resorting back to previous guise after a couple of days of inapropriate components making those journeys a bit more of a hassle. That and the realisation that nobody else thinks i'm as cool as I think I am. oh to dream....

  • Well, they do have the full set -

Anyone tried these? I have the Dia Comp version and although it works I can't help but feel it's about to fall to bits every time I brake. These look beefier.

Still good practice for riding brakeless I guess.

  • Wouldn't be both cheaper and better to just buy a fork with a drilled crown?

  • ^ Yeah I was considering that, too. Given that I know bugger all about track forks and threaded headsets I tried the retro-fitted brake option first.

  • ^^ But then you lose 50 skiddr points.

Then again, you lose 100 skiddr points for having a brake.

  • Believe me I am in the red when it comes to skiddr points.

  • ^Says Howard "cut me in half and I say Hipster"

  • You lose all your skidder points when no-one can see you through the tinted ambulance window

I really like that. The saddle colour is a nice touch. Match the stem and the seatpost though!

  • Ok, this is a long shot but I'm going to try my luck in here.

Has anyone had any experience with a De Rosa Cross Carbon Pro?

    ^not actual bike.

I've got the opportunity to pick one up for what seems a bargain but I can't find bugger all info on them. In all likelihood it will not get raced (competitively) but it will get ridden in the dirt. Any issues with fork problems or weak points around the head-tube, as the bikes original fork has been replaced with a Easton EA90X.

  • fork has been replaced with a Easton EA90X.

EA90X (which doesn't seem to exist) or EC90X? If the latter, the change could just be down to the ~200g weight saving over the stock fork. Why not ask the seller a: why they changed the fork and b: whether they still have the original fork.

Based on prejudice rather than data, I think I'd avoid an aluminium/carbon hybrid for off road use (or any use, but off road makes it worse) as the one problem which doesn't seem to be completely solved in bicycle manufacture is glueing plastic to metal.

  • I'm looking to buy a used carbon frame, a Look 555. It's in good condition, except for one chip that was caused by a rubbing cable during shipping, not a crash or an impact. Its about 1-2mm deep and 2cm long. Could this have an effect on the structural integrity of the frame? It's not at a junction point, its on the down tube where the shifter cables run.

This would be my first carbon bike, therefore I have no experience and I'm a bit skeptical. Any ideas, anyone?

  • is it painted?

  • Its about 1-2mm deep

2mm deep would be through the tube wall on a 555

  • 2mm deep would be through the tube wall on a 555

It's the lugged 2006 (i think) model. It might not be 2mm but its a noticeable indentation.

Its this one, and the chip is under the first o in look on the down tube.

  • Brand new Tonic Fab. Weighing up my wheel options and whether to drill the fork. Seems a shame to, but I do ride with a front brake usually.

  • Re clamp-on brake.

I think you can find the dia compe ones are about £30 and come with a leaver. So good value IMO. If you have a spare brake then you can make a bodge with some spacers, a long bolt and two peices of metal (I used some spare shead door hindges.

The clamp on rear brake has been a massive bodge using a free cycle caliper with the clamp part missing and vbrake blocks.

  • So ghetto

  • Went to Micycle and borrowed their Campag cassette tool, disassembled the whole rear hub and re-greased everything. World of difference is an understatement.

Took a cheeky pic on the way home :)

  • pine over this so much ^

I know that feel... Riding the Panasonic around with twin Hed's I feel like such a massive hipster bellend douchebag.... A totally rad one though...

Are you not tempted to stick some base bars on there instead of the track drops?

  • Project Croix de Fer is on hold while I await my wheels to be built. Lbs hasn't had time to do them yet :/
