  • What is it with people buying lo-pros and then running a quill stem at full extension...why not go the whole fucking hog and fit some bar ends pointing backwards and point the brake levers so far up in the air that you have to break your wrists to use them....then you'll have that full on 'clueless dad borrowing his sons mountain bike' look dialled!

Seriously...if your lo-pro is THAT uncomfortably low that you feel it necessary to have a stem like a fucking periscope why not just ride a normal frame?...or is it THAT important to be down wit tha yoots that you'd rather ride a cross between a time trial bike and a falcon ATB from the kays catalogue?

    what happened to happy-smiley-scott?

  • He moved to London.

  • Aende Lo-Pro frame courtesy of Simpson79, built it up a bit so far . .

    Awaiting:

    Chris King headset
    Sugino Zen chainring, anodised red
Black non machined H Plus Son front rim laced to red Hope Pro 3 hub

And a bit of luck getting a chain to fit!

    Looking good mr V.
the colours do no justice in the pics though do they? If only I had the time...ho hum.....

  • He moved to London.

...and started seeing hideous crimes against bicycle decency! ;)

    +1

  • What is it with people buying lo-pros and then running a quill stem at full extension...

People like the look of Lo-Pros - they would be impractical to ride around all day in full-on arse in the air / knuckles on the ground mode, so people tend to set them up with the bars a little higher on a longer stem.

I can't see a problem myself, aside from outraging cycle traditionalists.

Seriously...if your lo-pro is THAT uncomfortably low that you feel it necessary to have a stem like a fucking periscope why not just ride a normal frame?...

Why not simply run the stem a little longer so that your posture is fine ?

Scott, I think you need to take a shit and have a cup of tea.

  • +1

You are one of the few people who can turn any frame into a Lo-Pro with metres and metres of seat post. ;p

  • He moved to London.

    ha!

Well the good news is that 48/18 fits perfick with no need for any f'ing about . . should be done for next weekend save for the headset which is on order . . . will bring it buy when its done so you can have a spin!

I kinda agree with the whole periscope stem thing that Scott was harping on about, just doesnt look right apart from anything else.

  • Good times, love the idea of 'pongo' hand making it. really loved that frame, good workmansip your build looks already..

  • Nice to see my crappy old beater of a Lo/High Pro ride has caused such commotion.

@ Scott not scot - If you read my post you'll see I already commented I wasn't sure about the stem. It's a Nitto Technomic that I got real cheap, and actually that's the lowest it will go! So it's not jacked up (so there ner!). But each to their own brother, and you're entitled to your opinion.

I love your comment about clueless dad borrowing son's mountain bike. As one of the reasons for getting that stem is that I wanted to put a kids front seat on for my son. And needed to make sure there was enough room beneath the bars for his legs. But until I get a back brake on I'm not gonna put him on there.

@ Tynan - Thanks for the common sense post. I am now hurriedly building a light saber quill stem with a 'fuck-off' extension in your honour ;)

@Flickwg - I've seen your bike. I've seen your seat post. I'll take your +1, and raise you +2 :)

I've 've repped you all as I've enjoyed this thread and all the comments.

Now I'm off to get down with the yoots, "Yo bro, whassup?........ :)

  • He moved to London.

he started living with 3 women ;)

  • I have a project on teh go, and I'm getting really excited, but don;t want to reveal anything about it, which is annoying me....
furthermore I have tonnes of stuff that MUST leave my parents house, including a bike that I love dearly. If any of you can read into this and wish to make a query, please do. It has to go, and I'm very upset about it.

i'll buy the new project so you can keep the old one ;)

I agree. I won't be setting up my lo-pro frame like that. But then I also won't be running a 650c at the front. Cardinal sin for some, maybe, but I'm a fucking giantist and I can't fathom breaking my back to ride it. And like you said, if it's that uncomfortable I'll sell it.

  • I'm with scott.. htfu you lo-pro riders, either knuckle drag like you're meant to or get the stupid bike off the road. Why you little! Don't make me come over there!

  • You can buy nice quill stems that rise up. I reckon they look better if you need enough rise to make the bike more comfortable.
A slightly shorter quill than this but you get the idea.

  • @ Archi....are you seriously planning to use that bike to transport your child?
Speaking as a parent that has carried both his children on his bikes, please think twice about that one. If that is as low as the stem goes then there surely can't be much quill in the steerer? The frame and forks and wheels are far from ideal for carrying both you and a child.
I think it's great that you're wanting to involve your son in your passion for cycling...but seriously, your son is not gonna have a very pleasant ride above those wheels...buy a cheap mountain bike or something for child carrying duties.
Again though...it's just my opinion...no offence intended.

  • @ Tynan... I too love the look of a lo-pro....but i love it for what it is...low at the front, higher at the back....hence when people then put bars that high it simply spoils the flow of what could be a nice looking bike.
As someone with as much bike style as you have T i would have thought you'd understand.

And as for tea and a shit...unless you dig the whole 'two girl one cup' kinda thing, i try never to combine my tea with a shit thanks.
    ;)

  • My fixed project is suffering from a serious bout of geography.

All bits purchased (except campy pista chainset), and delivered/posted-on to me here in Norway.

Bob jackson frame finished and delivered to friends place in oxfordshire.

Mavic CXP 33 rims at parents place in Plymouth (ordered to arrive before they left to visit me, arrived 1 1/2 hours too late, shite!).

The wait is driving me nuts, by the time I get it together, winter will have kicked in. I'm picking up the frame on Friday though so I can at least start installing bits.

  • I've decided to try and build my IRO up for Sunday.

    Did the respray yesterday.

Everything is on order other than headset and bottom bracket. I'll be using some parts bin stuff on it until I've decided on the final spec.

    Do it baby, do it.

    Oh, you demagogue ! ;P

It was more of a pipe dream and also a way to sneak another bike in the house pass the missus. You do make a very good valid point on this, no offence taken.

Was to obsessed with making sure the stem and bars were of good enough quality for the additional weight, and forgot all about the frame n forks...doh!

Hmm, how to buy another bike without her knowing?

  • Do it baby, do it.

    I'm on it!!

I ain't worried. No 'Fruit Beer' over here, so doubt you'd bother to make the trip ;)
